摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve working property by eliminating the need for rough polishing operation and enabling direct finish polishing and to speedily obtain a connection surface of prescribed size. SOLUTION: A flat connection surface 13 formed on a ferrule main body 7 is pressed against a flat ferrule pressed surface 27 formed on a positioning member 3. After an adhesive 19 is charged in the ferrule main body 7, optical fibers 9 are inserted into the ferrule main body 7 to project their fiber tips and the adhesive from the connection surface 13 and made to abut against a fiber pressed surface 29 formed by recessing a partial area of the ferrule pressed surface 27. In this state, the adhesive 19 is hardened and the positioning member 3 is removed and then the optical fibers 9 and an adhesive film which project from the connection surface 13 in a nearly finished state are polished and finished until they are in level with the connection surface 13, so the connection surface 13 which is finished into a mirror surface can speedily be obtained.

Moreover, the lower face of the latch is designed to have a tapered face inclined upward gradually from the further side of the projection toward the nearer side. The optical connector of this invention has a ferrule stored in the housing for the optical connector.

The plural optical fiber inserting holes 2 each consist of a fine hole 2a and a large hole 2b situated in the front and the rear respectively. On the outside of the two large holes situated at both ends, there is parallelly provided an air discharge hole 8 which is closed in the front end and opened to the adhesive filling hole in the rear end. The adjacent two large holes 2b are in communication with each other through a slit-shaped communicating part 2c, as are a large hole 2b and the air discharge hole 8.
