摘要： PURPOSE:To automatically supply the optical fiber by simple constitution by providing a base plate, a holding plate, and a feeding-out means for the optical fiber, and providing many V-grooves in parallel to each other and at an equal pitch on this base plate. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with a square plate-like base plate 20 whose surface is flat. In such a state, first of all, the base plate 20 is set to the rear end, a holding plate 34 is opened, and an optical fiber 26 is set into a V-groove 24. Subsequently, the base plate 20 is fed by one pitch P, and a first optical fiber 26 is set to a supply position. Next, the optical fiber 26 is fed out by a feeding-out means 40. When a series of works of the optical fiber 26 which is fed out are ended, and the optical fiber 26 is going to be discharged, when the bate plate 20 is fed by another one pitch P, the optical fiber 26 is moved to a discharge position 43, and detached from the holding plate 34, therefore, can be discharged easily. Also, simultaneously, the next optical fiber 26 is set to the supply position.

摘要： PURPOSE:To simultaneously execute elimination of covering and wiping-off, and to obtain a satisfactory connection characteristic by attaching a wiping-off tool to each covering eliminating blade, so that opposed faces of the wiping-off tool come into contact with each other, when the covering eliminating blade is closed. CONSTITUTION:A wiping-off tool 20 is fixed with a screw, etc. to the upper and the lower covering eliminating blade 18, respectively, so that the wiping-off tool 20 and the covering eliminating blades 18 are opened and closed simultaneously. In such a state, (1) the covering eliminating blades 18 are opened, and an optical fiber 10 is inserted. (2) Subsequently, the covering eliminating blades 18 are closed, and a covering 14 is flawed. (3) Thereafter, a fiber holder 16 is drawn to the rear and the covering 14 is eliminated. In such a case, since the wiping-off tool 20 is also closed, dust and a residual foreign matter on the whole surface of a glass part 12 can be wiped off. That is, by only a forward and backward mechanism of the optical fiber 10, and an opening and closing mechanism of the covering eliminating blades 18, elimination of the covering 14 and wiping-off can be executed simultaneously, and a satisfactory connection characteristic can be obtained.

摘要： PURPOSE:To automatically set a reinforcing material by providing the lower part push tool which can place the lower part reinforcing material, and the upper part push tool being freely openable and closeable to the upper part of the lower part reinforcing material, and also, having a magnet, and attracting the upper part reinforcing material to the lower face of the upper part push tool by the magnet. CONSTITUTION:A pair of reinforcing material 45 are set onto the lower part push tool 30, and by allowing the upper part push tool 32 to descend, and allowing the lower part push tool 30 to ascend, the upper part reinforcing material 42 is allowed to adhere closely to the upper part push tool 32. When the upper part push tool 32 is allowed to ascend, and the lower part push tool 30 is allowed to descend, the upper art reinforcing material 42 is attracted to the upper part push tool 32 by a magnet 34. In this case, the lower part reinforcing material 38 remains placed on the lower part push tool 30 by its dead weight. Thereafter, an optical fiber 53 which has been welded and connected is inserted, and once again the upper part push tool 32 is allowed to descend, the lower part push tool 30 is allowed to ascend, the optical fiber 53 is inserted and held, and the lower part reinforcing material 38 and the upper part reinforcing material 42 are fixed. In such a way, the reinforcing material can be supplied automatically and continuously.

摘要： PURPOSE:To enable exact setting of a space between end faces 0 in the stage of welding and connecting by making at least once the relative movement of the end faces of optical fibers in a counter-butting direction and an axially offcentering direction in optional order. CONSTITUTION:The end faces 2A, 2B of the optical fibers are axially centered and the max. photodetection power P1 is obtd. The end 2A is moved toward the end 2B and the power attains the peak at the point P2 when the space between the end faces 3A and 3B attains zero. The end 2A, when moved further, is overpushed as shown in figure (c) and the level of the photodetection power decreases to the point P3. The end 2A is then moved in the counter-butting direction and the movement is stopped when the point P4=P2 is attained. The one end 3B is slightly moved in the axially offcentering direction and if the photodetection power does not change any more, the failure in maintaining exactly the zero space between the end faces is indicated. On the other hand, if the accuracy of the space between end faces = 0 is high, the level of the photodetection power decreases down to the point P5 and therefore the state of the exact space between the end faces = 0 is attained by moving the end 2A until the power P5 is generated by the axial offcentering operation after detection of the power P4.

Both optical fibers 10A and 10B are jogged in the opposite directions of the abutting directions to separate both optical end surfaces from the abutting plate 6. Consequently, there is no trouble when the abutting plate 6 leaves both optical fiber end surfaces. Then, the optical fiber end parts 11A and 11B are moved relatively in the abutting directions and welded together.

CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber end parts 7A and 7B are moved relatively to a shaping interval L by a specific extent in abutting directions after rough interval L1 is set, and then the optical fiber end surfaces 8A and 8B are heated and shaped by a couple of discharge electrodes 4M and 4N for about 0.1sec. The optical fiber end parts 7A and 7B are moved relatively in the abutting directions to abut on each other so that the end surface interval is zero, and then the optical fiber end parts 7A and 7B are heated again through the discharge electrodes 4M and 4N; and the thrusting of the end parts 7A and 7B is started synchronously or about 0.05sec later to make the welding connection.

摘要： PURPOSE:To perform melt-sticking of aligned axial lines with simple and inexpensive constitution by providing a mirror which projects the joint part of optical fibers insertably between the optical fibers and electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers A1, A2 are set to support tables 4, 5, and exposed parts B1, B2 are opposed in the position between electrodes 10, 11. When a mirror solenoid 25 is energized, a movable iron core 26 is lifted, and a mirror supporting table 20 is turned in an arrow (a) direction around a pin 21, by which a mirror 23 is inserted into between the joint part of the parts B1, B2 and an electrode 16 at a 45 deg. angle of inclination. The operator observes the top surface of the joint prt of the parts B1, B2, and the side face projected on the mirror 23, and aligns the axial lines. When the solenoid 25 is deenergized, the mirror 23 is reset by a spring 28. Discharge is caused between the electrodes 10 and 11, thereby melt- sticking the parts B1, B2. Thus, the melt-sticking of aligned axial lines is accomplished with the simple and inexpensive constitution.

If the electric conduction to the solenoids 30, 31 is cut off after the melt-connection of the fibers A1, A2, the tables 12, 12a are turned in mutually aparting directions, but at this time, the tensile forces correspondig to the recovering repulsive forces of coil springs 43, 43a act upon the connected part of lead parts B1, B2, whereby a tension test is carried out.

摘要： PURPOSE:To determine a total connection loss handily together with a connection loss obtained from a deviation of axis and angle after heating, by determining a difference between the axis deviation before and after the heating at an optical fiber fused connection to estimate a connection loss due to an antiphase core strain. CONSTITUTION:When a single mode optical fiber 1 is connected by fusing in package without axial centering by a V-groove connection method, a connection loss due to axis and angle deviations is determined from the amount X of axis deviation and the amount theta of angle deviation after the end of heating the optical fiber 1. Then, a connection loss due to an antiphase core strain caused with a local bending of the core 2 at the connection is estimated from a difference between the axis deviation X before immediate after the heating and that after the end of the heating following the connection by fusing and the results are added up to project a total connection loss. This enables highly accurate estimation of the connection loss due to the antiphase core strain and the total connection loss by observing the outline of the connection thereby allowing handy discovery of poor connection parts.

In such a case, the fiber receiving base 32 is in said discharge position and movable upward and downward, therefore, by two actuators of the carrying arm 10 and the fiber receiving base 32, the optical fiber can be discharged automatically.
