    • PURPOSE:To keep the dropping quantity of a free loop constant by controlling a rolling operation by a speed factor of the reference side and/or the driving side obtained by passing the front end of the free loop between two photoelectric detectors. CONSTITUTION:The speeds V1, V2 of a strip at the reference side and the driving side are detected to obtain the variation of the front end of a free loop by integrating the difference between two speeds. The speed V2 at the control side is corrected by a speed correcting signal prepared in accordance with said variation to control the position of front end of the free loop. Before starting the positional control, the speed V2 at the control side is speeded up by adding a bias value existing at the control side to the V2 to operate rolling. And the strip is passed between two photoelectric detectors 1,2 to decide a speed detecting factor at the reference side and/or the driving side. Then the operation is controlled by the speed detecting factor. Thus the dropping quantity of the free loop is kept constant, and labors required for a test running and a readjustment at the time of routing repairing are saved.

CONSTITUTION:One set of a detector consisting of a light projector 16 and a photodetector 17 is installed in the upper stage on both sides of a strip loop 13 of a heating furnace 1 near the bottom end thereof with said loop in-between, and one set of a detector consisting of a light projector 18 and a photodetector 19 is installed. Further plural sets of the detectors may be provided. With the detector of the uppermost stage, the ray of the projector 16 is hampered by the loop 13 and is not received by the photodetector 17 at all times. With the lowermost detector, the rate of feed-in of a feed-in deflector pinch roll 11 or the rate of pull-out of pull-out deflector pinch rolls 15 is adjusted in such a way that the ray of the light projector 18 is received by the photodetector 19 at all times.
