    • PURPOSE:To improve workability and to obtain good joint performance by winding coils near the welding end faces of pipes or bars, applying opposite magnetic fields to the end faces, and controlling and scattering the molten steel produced by flashing to the outside surface by the effect of the magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:A coil 12 is wound on each welding material 10, and exciting current is applied thereto from a power source 14 to generate the magnetic pole of the same polarity on the end faces. Current (i) is then conducted in the axial direction of the pipe from a welding power source 16 to oscillate the materials 10 in a direction F1 and to scatter the molten steel produced by flashing in a tangential direction F2, so that the fresh press-contact surfaces are upset. The formation of the magnetic pole is also possible by the magnetic field along the end faces of the pipes or the coils or magnets perpendicular to the plane of the pipes. The exciting current is conducted in the process of flashing. The phases of the welding current and exciting current are synchronously controlled to control the falshing in the same direction in the case of AC welding. The improvement in the joint performance, the considerable improvement in workability and the reduction in the accuracy of the welding end faces are thus made possible.
