    • PURPOSE:To shorten a pretreatment stage for vacuum plasma thermal spraying and to reduce the consumption of gas by using the electrode installed in a vacuum chamber as anode and a base metallic material as cathode and generating a DC arc discharge in a vacuum between both electrodes. CONSTITUTION:The base metallic material 5 and a plasma thermal spraying gun 2 are disposed to face each other in a reduced pressure vessel 1 to be evacuated to a vacuum. The plasma from a plasma generating source 3 and the thermal spraying powder material from a powder feeder 9 are supplied to this thermal spraying gun 2. A thermally sprayed layer is formed on the above-mentioned base metallic material 5 in this way. The surface of the base metallic material 5 is previously cleaned prior to the execution of the above-mentioned thermal spraying in this vacuum plasma thermal spraying method. The electrode 4 is disposed in the above-mentioned vessel 1 and the DC voltage is impressed from a power source 7 in the vacuum by using the electrode 4 as the anode and the base metallic material 5 as the cathode. The DC arc discharge is generated between both electrodes in this way and the entire part of the surface of the base material 5 is cleaned without generating erosion by utilizing the electric shock-like evaporation effect thereof.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which improves the characteristic of a billet by placing a box-shaped side flask with bottom members having the curved surfaces conforming to the roll surfaces of approximately the same length and having an apeture in the middle between a pair of horizontal rotating and casting rolls and maintaining the position where the solidification of the molten metal starts alway below the molten metal surface. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal 3 poured through an immersion nozzle 1 into a flapper nozzle 2 flows out onto the surfaces of the horizontal rotating and casting roll pair 4 through the molten metal outflow aperture 6 between the bottom members 2B having the curves surfaces conforming to the surface of said roll pair 4. The solidification of the molten metal 3 starts always from the roll surfaces at the bottom end of the aperture 6. The intrusion of the molten metal to the molten metal surface part is thus eliminated and the characteristic of the billet is improved.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a titled device which eliminates the injury by penetration of a molten metal and increases the degree of freedom of the material for short side gates by forming part of the outside shape of lubricative blocks to be pressed to the end faces of the respective rolls of a twin roll casting machine into the extended surface of the roll outside circumference and inserting the short side gates thereto in contact therewith.
      CONSTITUTION: Part of the outside surface of each block 1 which is pressed by means of a stay 5 and supporting bar 3 to the end face of each roll 8 of a twin roll type casting and rolling mill and consists of a lubricative solid material such as soft graphite is made into a cylindrical surface 14 conforming to the extension of the roll outside circumferential surface. The short side gates 10 are fitted and inserted to such surfaces 14 in contact therewith. The penetration of the molten metal is prevented by the tight contact between the blocks 1 and the roll end faces, by which the degree of freedom in selecting the material for the gates 10 requiring heat resistance and heat insulating characteristic is increased.
