    • PURPOSE:To widen the filtering surface area of a filter and to preoare said filter easily, by cylindrically winding a filter member which is a thin plate like form and of which the cross area shape in a flowing direction has a continuous recessed and protruded from to the flowing direction. CONSTITUTION:This cylindrical filter 9 is constituted by cylindrically winding a filter member 2, which is formed from a thin plate like filter element 1 provided with a wavy pleat 102 having gorrves 101 along the direction of the center axis thereof of which the cross area shape in the direction of the center axis has a continuous recessed and protruded form to the direction of the center axis, around an inner cylinder 3. To both end parts 901, 902 of this filter 9, opening parts 5, 7 and closed parts 6, 8 are formed and the space of the inner peripheral surface 903 thereof and the inner cylinder 3 and the space of the winding intiating end 401 of the filter member 2 and the bent inner surface 203 thereof are sealed with an adhesive material. By this constitution, an ineffective filter area due to the adhesive is reduced and the preparation of the filter is facilitated.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent by-passing of exhaust gas through catalyst converter, by fitting seal plates at opposite openings of a hollow space formed between monolithic catalyst and its container, and press fitting ceramic fibers into the hollow space. CONSTITUTION:Annular metal seal plates 6a, 6b are disposed around the end face of monolithic catalyst 1 in the manner keeping contact with the same, and fabrics 7a, 7b of fine metal wires shaped in an annular form are press fitted in respective spaces formed between plates 6a, 6b and mating projections 51a, 51b of a holding member, so as to absorb axial vibration of the monolithic catalyst 1. At opposite openings of hollow space 4 formed between outer peripheral surface of monolithic catalyst 1 and inner peripheral surface of container 2, annular compression-shaped elements 8a, 8b made of ceramic fiber of alumina or the like are fitted between seal plates 6a, 6b and opposite end portions of metal net 40. Here, the compression- shaped elements 8a, 8b are urged onto the outer peripheral surface of monolithic catalyst 1 and the inner peripheral surface of container 2, so that leakage of exhaust gas into hollow space 4 can be prevented by the element 8a.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance collecting efficiency of carbon fine particles as well as to prolong a period capable of continuously using the titled structure by forming an exhaust gas purifying part by plural layers of ceramic porous materials different in the mesh size of a ceramic skeleton. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas purifying part 1 is formed from a ceramic porous material having a plurality of complicatedly commingled and crossed continuous pores opened to the outside and a three-dimensional net like skeletal and consists of two layer parts of an upstream side purifying part 101 made of a ceramic skeletal having a mesh slightly coarser than that of said porous material and a downstream side purifying part 103 made of a ceramic skeletal having a slightly finer mesh. In addition, an outer wall 2 is formed by a ceramic porous material having a fine mesh and said purifying part 1 and the outer wall 2 consist of ceramic skeletons 1b, 2b having three-dimensional reticulate structures with voids 1a, 2a and both of these ceramic skeletals 1a, 2b are connected smoothly and directly in the larger part thereof.
