    • PURPOSE:To enable to perform pilot injection through improvement of fuel amount regulation precision, by providing a valve body which is actuated by means of a pressure in a pressure chamber changed through expansion and contraction of an electrostriction element to release and shut off a fuel passage. CONSTITUTION:When an electrostriction element 70 is contracted for backward movement by means of a voltage applied by a control device 54 at a given timing of the suction stroke of a plunger 26, a pressure in a compression chamber 100 is decreased through a piston 72 to release a fuel suction passage 30b by means of a valve body 108, and fuel flows through a fuel suction passage 30a and is sucked in a pump chamber 28. When energization is stopped and the electrostriction element 70 is expanded, a pressure in the pressure chamber 100 is increased through the piston 72 to shut off the fuel section passage 30b by means of the valve body 108. This causes a fuel amount to be regulated according to the length of a period between opening and closing of the valve body 108. Since a fuel amount regulating device 12 has extremely excellent response, it enables to perform pilot injection.

    • PURPOSE: To facilitate pilot injection of fuel, by providing a spill port for com- municating a pressure chamber of a fuel injection pump to the low pressure side, a spill valve that is opened and closed in response to the difference of forcesacted to the opposite ends thereof, and a solenoid valve which serves to communicate a variable pressure chamber with either of said pressure chamber or to the low pressure side alternatively.
      CONSTITUTION: In a high-pressure pump (fuel injection pump) 1 shown in the drawing, fuel is distributed to injection nozzles 2 via a groove 15, a discharge port 16, etc. after pressurizing fuel drawn into a pressure chamber 50 by the function of a plunger 11 that is designed to be able to reciprocate together with rotation. In such an arrangement, the pump 1 comprises further a sleeve-like housing 80 which serves as a fuel control means 8 for controlling pressure in the pressure chamber 50, and a solenoid valve 81 and a spool valve 82 are provided in said housing 80. The spool valve 82 includes a spill valve consisting of a spool 822 and a power piston 823, and opening and closing of a spill port 821c is controlled by the difference of pressures acted to the opposite ends of the spill valve. Further, the solenoid valve 81 is controlled to communicate a variable pressure chamber 827 formed on the right-side end of the power piston823 with either of the pressure chamber 50 or to the low pressur side alternatively.

    • PURPOSE:To make an injection rate lower at the initial stage but higher at the time of termination, by letting a needle valve open a nozzle hole by means of decompression in a pump case, performing fuel injection, while closing the nozzle hole with pressure inside the pump case upped, and stopping the fuel injection. CONSTITUTION:The fuel fed by pressure to a fuel injection valve 200 from a fuel supply source 100 is spouted out of a nozzle hole 203 when a needle valve 228 opens or closes this nozzle hole 203 in response to expansion and contraction motions of an electrostrictive type actuator 201. Since there is provided with a check valve 228, the needle valve 202 makes injection fuel pressure increasable when going down to open it. That is to say, high pressure injection takes place the higher the nearer to injection termination. And, an injection rate at the initial stage of injection is held down to relatively low. In addition, a throttle 231 is formed in a regulating passage 226, and when the needle valve 202 goes up, pressure in a pump case 211 is gradually raisable with feed pressure as an upper limit and, what is more, at the time of a compression stroke of the pump case, pressure inside this pump case 211 is yet more suddenly raisable.

    • PURPOSE:To dispense with an intake port and others for exclusively taking in fuel by opening and closing through a needle valve a fuel path of a pressure changing chamber in a spool communicating to a pressure chamber pressurized by the operation of a plunger and connecting a spill path to a communicating path for conducting a fuel path to a low pressure chamber of a pump. CONSTITUTION:A distribution type injection pump 1 pressurizes fuel in a pressure chamber 50 by the operation of a plunger 11 synchronized with an engine and supplies fuel into an injection nozzle 2 through a cut-out groove 12, discharge port, delivery valve 60, etc. Then, a spool 120 formed in the interior with a pressure changing chamber 150 communicating to the pressure chamber 50 through a throttle 121 is disposed to move toward and away from the pressure chamber 50 so that a fuel path 113 provided in said chamber 150 is opened and closed by a needle valve 110. The fuel path 113 communicates to a low pressure chamber 15 of a pump through a communication path 114 to which a spill path for releasing fuel in the pressure chamber 50 communicates, while this spill path is formed between both said chamber and spool when the spool 120 is spaced from the pressure chamber 50.
