摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cordierite-based honeycomb structure capable of reducing the wall thickness, raising the cell density and contributing to an improvement in moldability at the time of extrusion molding (especially the fluidity and shape retaining properties), mechanical strength (hydrostatic breaking strength) and catalyst supporting characteristics. SOLUTION: This method for producing a thin-wall cirdierite-based honeycomb structure comprises adding a molding assistant to a raw material for conversion into the cordierite, kneading the resultant mixture, providing a raw material batch, then molding the raw material bath by the extrusion molding, drying the molded product and then baking the dried molded product. The resultant honeycomb structure comprises a crystalline phase consisting essentially of the cordierite. In this case, the raw material batch for conversion into the cordierite contains >=65 wt.% flat or platy crude raw material for conversion into the cordierite, composed of talc, kaolin and aluminum hydroxide and having water of crystallization and the respective BET specific surface areas of the crude raw materials for the conversion into the cordierite are 7-18 m /g for the talc, 14-22 m /g for the kaolin and 6-18 m /g for the aluminum hydroxide.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obviate the generation of the detachment, etc., of a manifold ceramics pipe, etc., in spite of a high temp. and oscillation by locally reinforcing a part having the curvature of a projecting shape toward the inside surface of the branch part of the manifold ceramics pipe, and then internally chilling the same with a metal. CONSTITUTION:The manifold ceramics pipe 1 which is a part liner having a forked shape is cast-molded of aluminum titanate and is calcined at a prescribed temp. after drying. Colloidal silica is brushed and impregnated to the outside surface of the part, which has the curvature of the projecting shape toward the inside surface, of the branch part of this port liner. The port liner is dried at a prescribed temp. and is internally chilled by an aluminum alloy. Cracks are not generated at all in the port liner at the time of the internal chilling. The generation of the problems, such as detachment of the manifold ceramics pipe, is obviated in this way. Even if the ceramics pipe is subjected to the high temp. and oscillation by an engine operation.

An intermediate product having such a shape can be integrally molded by drain casting by introducing ceramic slurry such as aluminum titanate into the inside of a mold. This intermediate product is burned in such a state that the connection part 3 is fitted thereto. A plurality of branched pipes 2 are prevented from being approached and separated during firing by this connection part 3. The tip pats of the branched pipes 2 contg. this connection part 3 are cut from the position shown in one-dotted dash line after firing. Thereby generation of a strain is prevented at a time of firing and a ceramic pipe having a complex shape can be easily manufactured.

摘要： PURPOSE:To make collecting time of either a high collection efficiency type or a low pressure loss type longer by setting void content of a crystalline phase cordierite porous material of specific chemical composition as 40-50% and the pore volume of 2mum diameter or smaller within 0.015cclg. CONSTITUTION:Cordierite crystalline phase composed of 42-56wt.% SiO2, 30-45wt.% Al2O3 and 12-16wt.% MgO as main components is used for manufacturing a ceramic honeycomb filter for collecting fine particles or the like contained in the exhaust of a diesel car. Further, void content of a porous material is set 40-55% and pore volume of 2mum or smaller diameter is set 0.015cclg or less. Collection efficiency and pressure loss are inversely proportional which is varied according to the kind of subject exhaust gas, and said setting can make collection time longer for either a high collection efficiency type or a low pressure loss type. The regeneration treatment of the filter, therefore, can be shortened.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the subject structure suitable as a diesel particulate filter, etc., in short calcination time by using an easily combustible carbon powder exhibiting more than specific amount of weight loss in heat-treatment, compounding the carbon powder as a pore-forming agent to a ceramic-forming raw material powder and extrusion forming and calcining the obtained mixture. CONSTITUTION:The easily combustible carbon powder used as a pore-forming agent in the present process has a weight-loss of >=50% by the heat-treatment at 650 deg.C for 1hr in air. The carbon powder is added and mixed to a ceramic- forming raw material powder composed of SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, etc., and the mixture is extrusion-molded, dried and calcined to obtain a porous ceramic honeycomb structure. Since the time for keeping at a high temperature to burn the pore-forming agent is shortened, the calcination time can be shortened to prevent the occurrence of defective melting caused by unburnt pore-forming agent or abrupt combustion of the unburnt pore-forming agent.
