    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polycrystalline combined ceramic compact producing a thermotherapeutic effect even to a dressed man, not causing a burn at low temp. and microwave hazard, requiring no protective spectacles and excellent in safety by blending powdery ceramic stock with the same elements as the essential constituent elements of a human body or elements belonging to the groups of the constituent elements or groups close to the groups, compacting and sintering the resultant blend and using the resultant sintered compact as a far IR radiating substrate. SOLUTION: This radiating substrate radiates far IR of such a long wavelength as >=5μm in large quantities. Powdery ceramic stock such as zirconia or titania stock is blended with oxides of metals such as Fe, Mn, Co, Cu, Ni, Ba, Zn, Ca and K and >=10 kinds of essential constituent elements of a human body, e.g. Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni. The resultant blend is compacted in a prescribed shape and sintered at 500-1,300 deg.C to obtain the objective ceramic compact. This compact is allowed to radiate far IR by raising the surface temp. to 350-600 deg.C by resistance heating.
