    • PURPOSE:To reduce the diameter of leveling rolls and to reduce the size of a device in a roller leveler having two rows of upper and lower leveling roll groups which are staggered above and below by permitting change over of rolls in a sheet feed side to driving and non-driving by means of clutches. CONSTITUTION:The clutches 11, 11' are interposed between spindles for driving the inlet side roll and the output shaft of a pinion stand 9 among the spindles 10, 10... for driving the upper and lower leveling rolls 1, 1..., 2, 2.... The clutches can be engaged and disengaged as desired during driving. The inlet side roll 2a is connected to the driving roll (by engaging the clutch 11) to feed a sheet material 5 in the stage of biting the top end of the material 5. The roll 2a is not driven (by disengaging the clutch) and the leveling operation is continued when the stationary state is thereafter attained. The circulation torque to be exerted on the leveling rolls can be reduced by the above-mentioned roller leveler, by which the reduction in the diameter of the rolls and the size of the leveler is made possible.

    • PURPOSE:To form a projecting nozzle having a good shape in the stage of forming a projecting nozzle of a plate material by projecting the plate material on a die by an oversized punch then inserting a mandrel having a prescribed bore therein and pressing a cylindrical member from the bottom end of the die. CONSTITUTION:The prepared hole in the nozzle part of a plate material A is pressed to a die 2 and is projected by a punch 11 having the diameter larger than the diameter of the nozzle. The material is then placed on a die having the hole for the outside diameter of a flange and a mandrel 1' having a prescribed bore is inserted into the central part. A hollow forming jig 3 having a flange width is pressed from below to adjust the hole diameter to a prescribed size and to form a flange part, thereby forming the nozzle part having a good shape. The effect of forging is satisfactory and quality is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To add the plastic deformation further to the gear after the surface hardening treatment on purpose to improve the fatigue strength, by thread rolling the tooth root portion when the tooth tip contacts with the bottom land of the gear to be worked, and by arranging the thread rolling tooth so as to rotate without giving the plastic deformation to the tooth surface when the tooth tip contacts with the tooth surface. CONSTITUTION:The thread rolling tool gear 3 is formed so as to make the shape of its tooth tip 3a (shown by the cross hatching ) to be approximately same profile figure as the tooth root portion 1a (shown by the cross hatching) of the gear 1 to be worked. Besides, the total tooth height is made taller than the standard tooth 2 on purpose to make possible the thread rolling of the tooth root portion 1a. Then, when the tooth tip 3a contacts with the bottom land of the gear 1 to be worked, the tooth root portion 1a is thread rolled by the compression force in the direction of tooth height, and a residual compression stress layer is formed; however, when the tooth tip 3a contacts with the tooth surface 1b of the gear 1 to be worked, the tooth surface 3b is easily formed thin being caught in the direction of tooth thickness, therefore, the entire thread rolling tooth catches the tooth surface 3b and rotates without giving the plastic deformation to the tooth surface 1b.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a sheet material from producing a torsional deformation and to roll the material into a flat one by regulating the temperature distribution in the width direction of the material to be rolled to a specific one, in rolling the material by a roll cross mill. CONSTITUTION:A material A to be rolled is rolled by a roll cross mill, whose upper and lowr rolls constituted respectively of backup rolls 1, 3 and work rolls 2, 4 are slanted with respect to the advancing direction of the material A and are arranged to intersect with each other. In this case, the rolls 2, 4 can not bite the material A at the next stand or in reverse rolling because of the torsional deformation of material A caused by the mutually reverse offset directions of work rolls 2, 4 and by a shearing force between the material A and the rolls 2, 4. For preventing these troubles, the temperature distribution in the width direction of material A is made approximately uniform or the material A is partially heated or cooled so that the temperature of the central part is lower by about 20 deg.C than that of the end part, before rolling the material A by the roll cross mill.
