    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the excessive heating of a heater for protecting an oxygen sensor, and at the same time to quickly heat up the oxygen sensor for activating in a heatercontrolling device for the oxygen sensor. SOLUTION: Based on engine-starting temperature related to the atmosphere temperature of an oxygen sensor 17 being detected by the oxygen sensor 17 for detecting an oxygen concentration in discharged gas, a heater 17A for heating the oxygen sensor 17 by receiving current and generating heat, and a temperature detection means 19, the temperature difference between the engine temperature on the last running end and that on present starting is calculated by a temperature difference calculation means 23B. Using a heater control means 23A, when the temperature difference is equal to or higher than a specific temperature difference for a specific period after starting, current is supplied by a first current supply mode. On the other hand, when the temperature difference is lower than the specific temperature difference, the current is supplied by a second current supply mode with less amount of supply than that of the first current supply mode, thus heating the heater 17A.

    • PURPOSE:To restrict generation of output reducing or the like of an internal combustion engine to the minimum by moving the opening position of a valve to the full opening or full closing position, when an abnormal condition is detected on a detecting part for detecting the opening position of the valve, or on a driving part for driving the valve. CONSTITUTION:In an intake air passage of an engine 1, a valve 5 which is driven to be open/close is provided so as to control the length of the passage long or short. In this case, the target opening value of a valve 5 corresponding to the operating condition of the engine 1, which is detected by an intake air quantity sensor 2 and a crank angle sensor 4, is memorized beforehand in a controller 8. On the other hand, a real valve opening value is found out on the basis of a valve opening detection signal from a valve opening detection circuit 7 composed of a Hall sensor or the like, and thereby comparison with the valve opening and the target opening is carried out. As a result, a driving circuit 6 composed of a DC motor or the like is driven when the actual valve opening is different from the target opening. When it is judged that the valve driving circuit 6 or the valve opening detecting circuit 7 is in an abnormal condition, the opening position of a valve 5 is controlled to the full closing or full opening position.
