    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode catalyst comprising a multi-copper oxidase having a small overvoltage and excellent power generating efficiency, an enzyme electrode with the electrode catalyst, as well as a fuel cell and biosensor equipped with the enzyme electrode.
      SOLUTION: The electrode catalyst includes a multi-copper oxidase having a plurality of copper atoms including at least type I copper, wherein at least one cysteine residue and two histidine residues are coordinated with the type I copper, and a proline residue which is present between the cysteine residue and a histidine residue forming a ligand loop among the two histidine residues, or a proline residue which adjoins downstream of the histidine residue forming no ligand loop of the two histidine residues is substituted with an amino acid residue except a proline residue, and a hydrogen bond is formed between the amide proton of the substituted amino acid residue and the sulfur atom of the type I copper-coordinated cysteine residue.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bilirubin oxidase having a stable catalytic activity and a method for producing the same.
      SOLUTION: This method for producing the bilirubin oxidase is provided by introducing a bilirubin oxidase gene originated from an incomplete filamentous fungus, Myrothecium verrucaria MT-1 and encoding the bilirubin oxidase into e.g. yeast belonging to the genus Pichia as a host animal for performing a transformation. Thereby, the recombinant type bilirubin oxidase having the stable catalytic activity can be produced in a large amount. The obtained recombinant type bilirubin oxidase can be used for a quantitative measurement of bilirubin in an aqueous solution, e.g. in blood, blood serum, blood plasma, bile liquid or urine.
