    • PURPOSE:To obtain a polyvinyl alcohol polymer membrane excellent in dimensional stability at the time of wetting, by acetifying the OH-group of a polyvinyl alcohol polymer with specific long-chain dialdehyde to introduce three-dimensional cross-link into said group. CONSTITUTION:A separation membrane is formed at first from a polyvinyl alcohol polymer. Subsequently, the separation membrane is immersed in an acetifying reaction bath comprising an aqueous solution containing dialdehyde represented by formula (wherein n is an integer of 7-10), for example, nonane diol, sulfuric acid and sodium lauryl sulfate and reaction temp. and time are regulated to bring the acetifying ratio of the separation membrane to 5-60mol%. By this method, the separation membrane containing the polyvinyl alcohol polymer as a base material excellent in dimensional stability is obtained while characteristics such as heat resistance, hot water resistance and strength are sustained.
