    • PURPOSE:To stably treat the treated water of an aeration tank using an ultrafiltration hollow fiber membrane by a method wherein the treated water of the aeration tank is circulated and supplied to a membrane module having the ultrafiltration hollow fiber membrane built therein and the flow path supplying the treated water of the aeration tank is subsequently closed to backwash the hollow fiber membrane with a filtrate. CONSTITUTION:A membrane module 4 and an aeration tank 1 are connected by a circulation circuit 3 and a pump 2 for supplying the treated water of the aeration tank 1 to the membrane module 4 is provided to the circulation circuit 3. The treated water of the aeration tank 1 is sent to the membrane module so as to pass along the surface of the hollow fiber membrane received in said module at membrane surface speed of 1.5 - 3 m/s. In the backwashing with a filtrate, the filtrate in a filtrate tank 5 is supplied to the outside of the hollow fiber membrane under pressure by a pump or air pressure. As the pressure at the time of the backwashing with the filtrate becomes high, the SS component bonded to the inner surface of the membrane can be efficiently peeled off. The treated water of the aeration tank is circulated for a time (usually, about 10 sec) capable of entirely returning the peeled SS component to the aeration tank while the backwashing with the filtrate is carried out in order to prevent the re-adhesion of the peeled SS component to the surface of the membrane and, thereafter, the backwashing with the filtrate is stopped to start filtering.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrophilic hollow fiber membrane having high water permeability, excellent fractionating property and small reduction of flux by forming such a porous structure comprising a dense layer of the inner surface and a reticular structure in a manner that the reticular structure partially has openings to give pores to the outer surface, and specifying the permeation rate for pure water to a certain value or larger. CONSTITUTION:The porous hollow fiber membrane contains 0.5-10% hydrophilic polymers (e.g. polyvinylpyrrolidone) to hydrophobic polymers (preferably, polysulfone or polyethersulfone). This membrane has a porous structure comprising 0.5-5mum-thick dense layer having fine pores of various shapes with 10-50% porosity and a reticular structure formed continuously to the dense layer. The outer surface of the membrane has pores with the maximum pore diameter of 0.5-5mum which are formed by partial opening of the reticular structure. The permeation rate for pure water of the membrane at 25 deg.C is specified to >=800l/m .hr.kg/cm . The obtd. porous hollow fiber membrane is excellent in water permeability and fractionating property, and moreover, it is hydrophilic.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a membrane for separation having superior acid resistance and oxidation resistance by sticking polyvinyl chloride (PVC) on the inside and outside surfaces of the membrane with specific micropore sizes and the inside surfaces of the pores of the membrane. CONSTITUTION:In a membrane having fine structure with 0.01-1mu average pore sizes, PVC is stuck approximately uniformly on the inside and outside surfaces of the membrane, and the inside surfaces of the pores of the membrane. The concn. of this sticking is not required to be the same in all the places; for example, the concn. of the sticking higher on the inside and outside surfaces of the membrane than on the inside surfaces of the pores gives equally good results. The preferable concn. of the sticking is to the extent of not changing the average pore sizes of the membrane largely and of not degrading permeation performance, etc. and it is about 2.5-40wt% basing on the weight of the membrane backing material. The PVC is stuck by the method of immersing the membrane backing material in a soln. prepd, by dissolving PVC in a solvent to allow the soln to be impregnated thoroughly with said material and removing the liquid in a manner as to avoid drying the surfaces at ordinary temp. or below the boiling point of the solvent and further drying the same. The liquid removal is accomplished by leaving the membrane under gravity in a tightly sealed housing or exerting centrifugal force thereto. The film backing material is a backing material having low acid resistance and oxidation resistance such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer or the like.
