    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of inexpensive and simple treatment of aquatic organisms.
      SOLUTION: The inside of a treatment vessel 2 of the volume reduction apparatus 1 is divided into two parts with a partition plate 4: one serves as a containing vessel 11, and the other as defoaming vessel 12. In the lower part of the partition plate 4, a passage 5 which is water-permeable but does not allow aqueous target organisms to pass through is formed with a notch 6 and a check plate 7 arranged within the defoaming vessel 12. Inside the defoaming vessel 12, a Saran-Lock filter 13 is filled as a foam-capturing material. In the defoaming vessel 12, an aeration device 14 is also arranged. The configuration of the apparatus 1 enables inexpensive and simple treatment of aqueous organisms while controlling foaming.

      SOLUTION: The wastewater treatment apparatus which treats wastewater in a treatment tank (a denitrification column 52) with microorganisms has an injection portion 10 which can inject one or both of two alcohols as a nutrient source for the microorganisms into the treatment tank, and a switch control means 22 which, when the nutrient source is switched from one of the two alcohols to the other alcohol, controls the injection portion 10 so that the injection amount of the other alcohol increases as the injection amount of the one of the alcohols decreases. The kind of the alcohols is gradually changed, which gradually acclimates the microorganism to new nutrient source and removes factors, such as a factor weakening the microorganisms. As a result, the progress of the treatment reaction can be maintained to suppress the increase of total nitrogen concentration and COD concentration.
