    • PURPOSE:To prevent the inclusion of slag and to avert the generation of the lack of fusion in a joint part by combining a self-shielded arc welding method with an enclosed welding method and specifying the compsn. and flux rate of the flux of a flux cored wire. CONSTITUTION:A pair of materials 11, 12 which are to be welded, are made into a bar shape, and have the joint surfaces substantially perpendicular to the axial direction thereof are disposed by providing a prescribed groove space 15 between the joint surfaces and a backing strip 14 consisting of refractories having >=1100 deg.C softening point is disposed to enclose a part of the groove space 15. These materials are then subjected to the enclosed arc welding between the joint surfaces by using the flux cored wire 18 for self-shielded arc welding. The wire 18 is formed by filling the flux, which contains, by weight, 20 to 30% metal fluoride, 2 to 10% metal carbonate, 8 to 15% Al, 5 to 10% Mg, 0.5 to 8% Mn, and 35 to 60% iron component and is adjusted in the ratio of the metal fluoride/iron component to 0. 4 to 0.7, into a steel sheath at 17 to 23wt.% flux rate.

    • PURPOSE:To easily generate arcs by using a backing strip having the softening point above a specific temp. and having an electrical conductivity at the time of disposing the backing strip enclosing the aperture in a groove face and inserting a welding wire from the aperture and forming the arcs, thereby executing welding. CONSTITUTION:The backing strip 13 is so disposed as to enclose the region of the groove space 15 of reinforcing bars 11, 12 as materials to be welded. The backing strip 13 disposed in the deep part of the groove space has the electrical conductivity and, therefore, the arcs are surely and easily generated if the welding wire is inserted into this groove space 15 and an arc voltage is impressed between the welding wire and the materials to be welded. This backing strip is formed of a material having the refractoriness of >=1100 deg.C softening point and, therefore, even if the backing strip comes into contact with the weld metal melted by the arc heat, the backing strip can hold this weld metal via the slag. The arcs are easily generated in this way and the smooth starting of the welding operation is assured.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of weld defects by using backing material composed of a band-plate-shaped flexible member and an electrically conductive member superposed thereon, copper backing and a shielding cap to perform gas shielded arc enclosed welding. CONSTITUTION:The backing material 30 composed of the band-plate-shaped flexible member 31 and the electrically conductive member 32 superposed thereon is inserted into a groove 48 formed on the inside lower part of the center in the longitudinal direction of the copper backing 40. The shielding cap 49 connected with the tip of the copper backing 40 is tightened by a wing bolt 60 to fix the copper backing 40 and members 50 to be welded are arranged in its peripheral space. Shielding gas is discharged from shielding gas discharge openings 43 and 44 provided to the shielding cap to an opening 42 to perform gas shielded arc enclosed welding. By this method, the weld defects such as undercuts and overlaps and damage of the copper backing are prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To weld the full circumference of joint of butt-joined stationary pipes excellently and at high efficiency in horizontal or inclined position, by welding a preceding lamination by a specified welding method and welding a succeeding lamination by said specified welding method partially and by using a backing strip for the remaining part. CONSTITUTION:A group consisting of hand welding, GMA welding and TIG welding is called the first group welding method, and another group consisting of EG (electrogas) welding, ES (electroslag) welding and other welding methods using backing strips to prevent the deposited metal from drooping off is called the second group welding method. When welding the full circumference of the joint of butt-jointed stationary pipes in horizontal or inclined position, the initial layer A part over the full circumference is welded to form a preceding lamination by a welding method selected from the first group welding method, and parts B, B' of a succeeding lamination are welded by a welding method selected from the second group welding method, and finally the parts C, C' are welded by a method selected from the first group welding method. Besides, by setting angle theta larger than about 30 degrees, insufficient penetration and slag inclusion may be prevented.
