    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a continuously variable transmission, which suppresses the occurrence of excessive hydraulic pressure and belt slippage.SOLUTION: The controller for the continuously variable transmission controls the continuously variable transmission 30 including a variator 1 having a primary pulley 2, a secondary pulley 3 and a power transmitting member 4 wound around the primary pulley 2 and secondary pulley 3, and a torque converter 6. The controller includes a rotating speed detection means 12 for detecting rotating speed of a rotor 15 located closer to a driving wheel 17 side than the torque converter 6; a rotational speed change amount calculation means 12 for calculating a change amount of rotatational speed per unit time; a limiter setting means 12 for setting the absolute value of a limiter of the change quantity to be larger as the rotatational speed difference between an input shaft and an output shaft of the torque converter 6 is larger; and a final change amount setting means 12 for setting the smaller value of the absolute values of the change amount and of the limiter as a final change amount; and a hydraulic control means 12 for controlling the hydraulic pressure to be supplied to the variator 1 based on the final change amount.
