    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform work for replacing former main and branch pipes of an existing supply pipe with new main and branch pipes and joining the same without shutting off gas to the existing supply pipe. SOLUTION: First and second branch joints 6, 7 are fitted to two places in the midway of the existing supply pipe 3, and first and second opening and closing devices 11, 12 are fitted to the inner and outer branch ports 9, 10 of the first and second branch joints. A branch hole 21 is bored in the existing supply pipe 3. The second opening and closing device 12 is put in the closed state and a boring machine 18 is detached. A by-pass pipe 22 is connected between the second opening and closing devices 12, and the second opening and closing device 12 is put in the opened state. The boring machine 18 is fitted to bore a shut-off branch hole 23 in the existing supply pipe 3. After the boring machine 18 is detached, a bag type intra-pipe shut-off device 24 is fitted to each first opening and closing device 11, the bag 25 of the bag type intra-pipe shut-off device is inserted from the shut-off branch hole 23 into the existing supply pipe 3 and expanded to intercept the gas circulation in the existing supply pipe. The space between first branch joint 6 and the second branch joint 7 is cut. The new main and branch pipes 4 and the cut end part on the second branch joint side of the existing supply pipe 3 are connected by a new supply pipe 26. The first and second opening and closing devices of the second branch joint are put in the closed state, and the by-pass pipe 22 and the bag type intra-pipe shut-off device 24 are respectively detached. A plug insert tool 29 is fitted to the first and second opening and closing devices, and a plug 28 is inserted in the shut-off branch hole 23 and the by-pass branch hole 21 to temporarily perform closing. The first and second opening and closing devices are detached, and main plugs 30 are fitted to the inner and outer branch ports 9, 10 of the second branch joint 12 to finally perform closing.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a connection construction for replacing an old main branch pipe of an existing supply pipe with a new main branch pipe. SOLUTION: First and second branch joints 6, 7 are fitted to two positions in a mid-way of the existing supply pipe 3 and then first and second switching devices 11, 12 are fitted to each of internal and external branch openings 9, 10 of the joints. A bypass pipe is connected between the switching devices 12, 12 to make the second switching device 12 "open". A bag type in-pipe blocking device is fitted to the switching devices 11 to block a gas flow inside the existing supply pipe. A first branch joint 6 and second branch joint 7 of the existing supply pipes 3 are cut. The new main branch pipe 4 and the cut portion of the second branch joint of the existing supply pipe 3 are connected by the new supply pipe 26. The first and second switching devices 11, 12 are made to close and the bypass pipe 22 is removed from the second switching device 12. Temporary plugs are attached to the first and second switching devices 11, 12 to remove the switching devices 11, 12.
