CONSTITUTION:A small diameter roll 2 is pivoted to a roll journal box 3 freely drivingly and a large diameter roll 4 to a roll journal box 5 freely drivingly. The rods of fluid pressure cylinders 9, 9' are retreated to locate rolls 8, 8' pivoted to arms 10, 10' at the pass line and a strip (s) is passed through the upper part of the roll 8, between the rolls 2 and 4, the upper part of the roll 8' and a deflector roll 15. The roll 8' on the downstream side is turned to the upper part of the roll 4 by the cylinder 9' to wind the strip (s) round the roll 4 at approximately >=180 deg. angle, then the strip is rolled with the rolls 2, 4 at the different circumferential speeds thereof. The shape of the strip (s) is flattened by the above-mentioned method without decreasing tension.

The said strip wrapper is provided with two ring shape rotors 11 parallel to the rolling line and rotatable inside the housing 1; a roll 14 is arranged between opposite two rotors 11; and two couples of rails 28, 29 respectively aligned with said upper and lower rails 22, 23, 25, 26 are arranged.

The diameter of the upper work roll 1 is made small; an intermediate roll, whose effective surface length is longer than that of the upper backup roll 5, is arranged between the upper work roll 1 and the upper backup roll 5. Upper and lower increase benders 13, 14 and upper and lower decrease benders 15, 16 are respectively permitted to work independently of each other of upper and lower devices, or to work simultaneously, by switching changeover valves 23a, 23b. By the present constitution, the cross sectional shape of a rolled metallic strip is controlled to a good condition.

    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a metallic strip with a good cross sectional shape, by providing upper and lower crown-variable rolls with an annular groove in respectively different length, by making the working pressure variable, and by making the surface shape of upper and lower work rolls controllable. CONSTITUTION:A working oil is supplied to either one of annular grooves 54, 55 of crown-variable rolls' main bodies 52, 53, in order to press an upper crown-variable roll 48 or a lower crown-variable roll 49; hereby, a crown is given to the crown- variable roll. When a crown is thus given to either the roll 48 or the roll 49, the upper work roll 1 or the lower work roll 3, both are contacting with the crown- variable roll, is bent and a metallic strip S is thereby rolled in to an optimum cross sectional shape. In case of rolling a metallic strip of a wide breadth, the roll 49 having a long annular groove is employed; and for a metallic strip S of a short breadth, the roll 48 having a short annular groove is employed; hereby, the metallic strip S is rolled into a good cross sectional shape.

The roll 12' on the downstream side is turned to the upper part of the roll 8 by the cylinder 10' to wind the strip S round the roll 2 and the strip is rolled with the rolls 2, 4 at the different circumferential speeds thereof. The distribution of tension is made uniform and the shape of the strip S is controlled easily by the above-mentioned mechanism.

      CONSTITUTION: When rearranging the roll, the high pressure oil held in the clearance A is returned; hereby, the piston 14 goes down, and a clearance is formed between the piston 14 and the screw 2. Under this condition, the torque actuator 20 is driven for retracting the lower support beam 17 together with the hydraulic reducing cylinder 16 out of the window of the mill housing. By utilizing the cleararnce formed between the screw 2 and the upper backup roll chock 4, the rearrangement of the roll can be easily carried out. After the roll is rearranged, and the lower support beam 17 is returned to the position for th rolling condition, the hydraulic reducing cylinder 16 can be installed on the upper backup roll chock 4 by only actuating the screw 2.

The upper and lower increase bending devices 13, 14 and upper and lower decrease bending devices 15, 16 are driven by switching the changeover valves 23a, 23b so as to work independently of each other of upper and lower devices or to work simultaneously. By the present constitution, the cross sectional shape of a rolled metallic strip is controlled to a good condition.
