    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive device that secures reliability in a clutch means, and can control increase of energy consumption by excessive fastening power.SOLUTION: A rear wheel drive device 1 includes: electric motors 2A and 2B that generate the driving force of the vehicle; hydraulic brakes 60A and 60B installed on a power transmission path of the electric motors 2A and 2B and rear wheels LWr and RWr and making the electric motor side and the wheel side a cut-off state or a connection state by releasing or fastening; a control device 8 that controls switching of the cut-off state and the connection state of the hydraulic brakes 60A and 60B, and the fastening force of the hydraulic brakes 60A and 60B in the connection state; and an electric oil pump 70 that supplies liquid fluid to be used for lubrication and/or cooling to at least either the electric motors 2A and 2B, and a transmission route. At least, a part of the electric motors 2A and 2B, and a planetary gear type speed reducer 12A and 12B are located in the retained liquid fluid. The control device 8 controls the fastening force of the hydraulic brakes 60A and 60B in a connection state based on the viscosity of the liquid fluid or the viscosity correlation.

The drive controller for a vehicle also includes: a means for detecting a vehicle speed; a means for determining a target rotational speed of the electric motor on the basis of the vehicle speed; and a control unit, when starting the drive of the vehicle by the electric motor or the regenerative drive of the electric motor when the vehicle travels by the drive power from the drive source, for controlling the electric motor so that the rotational speed of the electric motor is synchronized with the target rotational speed and also controlling drive of the bi-directional power transmitting unit. The control unit operates the bi-directional power transmitting unit when the rotational speed of the electric motor reaches a threshold rotational speed lower than a target rotational speed.
