    • PURPOSE:To monitor the tensile strength at the edge of a cable in laying directly and to record it, by using wires having integral optical fibres. CONSTITUTION:To an edge of a cable 20 a cable extension fitting 21 is connected, to which is then connected a load cell 10. A wire 1 is connected to an O/E(optical/electric) converter 31 and a memory 32 through a winch capstan 30. By winding the traction cable 1 with a winch capstan 30, the cable 20 is drawn and laid, when the tensile strength loaded to the cable 20 is directly detected by a strain guage 5 of the load cell 10 generating the detected current corresponding to the degree of detection. The detected current is converted into an optical signal with ah E/O converter 4, which is transmitted through optical fibres 3 and then again converted into an electric signal with the O/E converter 31 and recorded in a memory 32. The recorded tensile strength is the very tensile strength itself at the edge of the cable 20, with which the cable itself is accurately monitored to perform cable laying.
