CONSTITUTION:In order to obtain the entry position of the information element, the positions Xa, Ya,...Xd, Yd of the points (a), (b), (c), (d) of the four corners of an external frame are obtained to obtain the coordinates of the points 11, 12, 21, 22 of the reference of four bits.     • PURPOSE:To recognize character graphic with high accuracy regardless of the size variation of the character patterns or the mixture of graphic of different sizes, by performing the matching among character patterns after recognizing the positioning to a dictionary and the ratio of sizes between the dictionary and the input character graphic. CONSTITUTION:A processor recognizes the address of a picture memory where the center of a dictionary is coincident with the center of an input character graphic and then operates the address of a point A' of a picture memory corresponding to a point A of the dictionary as well as a correction address used for shift to the next point B' according to the size ratio between both centers. Then the processor sets these addresses to a matching circuit. The matching circuit operates and counts the coincidence frequencies between data of the dictionary and the input character pattern automatically the matching address of a picture memory corresponding to the dictionary after the horizontal, and vertical matching start address and correction address are set and a start command is given from the processor. In such a way, the matching circuit produces a matching address of an input picture to the position of a dictionary.

CONSTITUTION:When the value of the picture element of the standard pattern P (i, j), which is normalized to (n) picture elements in a length and to (m) picture elements in a breadth, is set at K bits, and the picture element value of P (i, j) is set at >= three, for the value of a difference function D (i, j), if the judging objective pattern, which is stored into an eight-bit register 111, T (i, j) = 1 is obtained, and the value of the register 111 is added to a 16-bit adder 115 by a selector 114, D3 (i, j) = P (i, j) is set, at the time of T (i, j) = 0, the value of an inverter 112 is added to the adder 115, and D3 (i, j) = 2K-1-P (i, j) is set. Further the initial value of the standard pattern P (i, j) is changed from 2 to 2 -1, it is set so as to be different from the picture element values in the all directions, when a learning pattern L (i, j) is one, P (i, j) is increased by one, when L (i, j) is zero, one P (i, j) is decreased by one, and the learning is executed. Thus the calculating time of the evaluating function S of a binary picture in an evaluating function computer 11 can be drastically shortened.
