    • PURPOSE:To secure the safety of elevator passengers and prevent breakage of loaded object(s) by applying brakes in the form of gradual application using a plunger brake device when a fluid pressure type elevator should go in emergency stop, and gradually reducing the deceleration of elevator stopping. CONSTITUTION:In the event of failure, a brake command for emergency stop is transmitted to a control device 5 of a plunger brake device 4 from an elevator control device via a signal line 15b. A switch of this plunger control device 5 is put on, and power is fed to a delay circuit 21 consisting of a resistance and capacitor via a power supply line 16, and further sent from the delay circuit 21 to a solenoid 19 in the plunger brake device 4. A brake shoe 17 is pressure contacted by the magnetic force of the solenoid 19 to a plunger 2 against the energizing force of a spring 20. The force applied to an armature 18, i.e., the braking force to the plunger 2 is in the form of gradual application of effect, Thereby the deceleration at the time of emergency stop is reduced gradually.
