    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constitution in which the fixed layer magnetic moment is stable to a large external magnetic field, and the direction of magnetization of the fixed layer can be controlled by magnetic field applying treatment at room temperature, and to provide the magnetic field applying treatment. SOLUTION: In a magneto-resistance effect type head, the fixed layer is constituted of two ferromagnetic films A and B which are anti-ferromagnetically coupled to each other, and an anti-ferromagnetic coupling film for separating the two ferromagnetic films A and B from each other, and the single coercive force of the ferromagnetic film A is made to 200 (Oe) or more, and the single coercive force of the ferromagnetic film B is made to 20 (Oe) or less. As to the composition of the ferromagnetic film A and the ferromagnetic film B, when it is expressed by Co 100-Y Fe Y (atomic percent), 80≥Y≥40 for the ferromagnetic film A, and 20≥Y≥0 for the ferromagnetic film B, and the film materials in contact with the ferromagnetic film A are characterized by being Ru, Ta, NiFeCr, Cu, and NiFe.       SOLUTION: This magnetoresistive effect head has magnetoresistive effect films (11 to 15), hard magnetic films 22a, 22b provided at their both ends to stabilize the magnetoresistance effect, and neighboring electrodes 23a, 23b to supply current for sensing. Electrodes 21a, 21b are provided at the boundary of the magnetoresistive effect films and the hard magnetic films. These electrode are made by a self-alignment process which uses the same mask as used, when making the magnetoresistance effect films. The hard magnetic films and magnetoresistance effect films (11 to 15) have no region in which they come into direct contact with.

    • PURPOSE:To form a magnetic head which is capable of preventing Barkhausen noises to be the cause for variation in characteristic of the magnetic head and noises and is effective particularly for a magneto-resistance effect type suppressing the degradation in head sensitivity even in a narrow track part. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic domain control layer 60 and an electrode film 70 are arranged on a magneto-resistance effect film 50. The magnetic domain control layer 60 is composed of >=2 layers of laminated films formed by successively laminating conductive nonmagnetic films 55 and magnetically soft ferromagnetic films 65. As a result, the generation of poles at the end of the magneto-resistance effect film is prevented and the degradation in the sensitivity is suppressed without affecting the magneto-resistance effect film in the magnetosensitive part. In addition, the generation of magnetic walls in the central part of the magneto-resistance effect film is suppressed by the vertical bias magnetic field generated from the magnetic domain control layer 60 and the Barkhausen noises caused by the irregular movement of the magnetic walls are suppressed.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of a magnetic permeability when a large anisotropic stress is applied on a magnetic core and the deterioration in the electromagnetic conversion characteristics of the magnetic head by forming an upper magnetic film and a lower magnetic film to a circular shape. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic head consists of the lower magnetic film 2 formed on an Al2O3 film 12 of a substrate 1 and the upper magnetic film 3 which is formed on the lower magnetic film 2 in such a manner as to bring one end 31 into contact with one end 21 of the lower magnetic film 2 and to dispose the other end 32 to face the other end of the lower magnetic film 22 via a magnetic gap G and constitutes a magnetic circuit having a magnetic gap S in a part together with the lower magnetic film 2. The stress acting on the films is determined by the shape of the magnetic core and since the region in the front end part of the core is sensitive to recording and reproducing characteristics, the lower and upper magnetic materials 2, 3 are formed to the circular shape so as to relieve the stress in the front end part of the core. The magnetic anisotropy of the upper magnetic film 3 and the lower magnetic film 2 of the thin-film magnetic head is diminished in this way and the stable electromagnetic conversion characteristics which obviates the generation of the reproducing waveform distortions are obtd.
