摘要： PURPOSE:To make the refractive index of a clad layer uniform in a glass waveguide. CONSTITUTION:This glass waveguide having a clad layer is produced by forming cores 1 on a silica glass substrate 4 or on a silicon substrate on which silica glass is formed, depositing porous clad layers to cover the cores 1, and then changing the porous clad layers into transparent glass. The first porous clad layer 2 which covers the cores does not contain no P2O5 but contains B2O3, while the second porous clad layer 3 which covers the first porous clad layer 2 contains both of P2O5 and B2O3. Thereby, a glass clad layer having uniform refractive index can be formed in the finish state after diffusion.

摘要： PURPOSE:To eliminate a problem of surface activity and achieve a high performance with an improved heat resistance by forming silica glass film on a metal capillary inner surface by the sol/gel method and then providing a solid phase on a surface of the glass film. CONSTITUTION:A specified stainless steel capillary 1 and a metal alkokydo solution (example; a mixed liquid of tetraethoxysilane, water, alcohol, and acid) are prepared. When its gel liquid reaches a specified viscosity, this gel liquid is filled into the capillary 1 and then is pushed at a specified speed, thus enabling a coating film 2 to be formed within the capillary 1. The film 2 may be formed by the static method. The capillary 1 is heated and the residual water and alcohol are eliminated. He gas is allowed to flow from one side of the capillary 1 and is increased to a specified temperature within a constant- temperature bath, thus forming a transparent silica glass film 2. A normal inactivation treatment is performed to an inner surface of the film 2. Then, a solid phase (example; methyl silicone) 3 is coated to an inner surface of the capillary 1 by the static method.

摘要： PURPOSE:To suppress degradation of a cover material by oxidation at high temperature by inserting an optical element fiber covered by a coating material into a metallic pipe and at the same time putting carbon powder into the pipe. CONSTITUTION:A carbon layer 2 is formed by laying a carbon film on the surface of an optical element fiber 1 and a polymer layer 3 is formed by laying, thereupon, an organometallic polymer. This optical element fiber 1 is inserted into the metallic pipe 4, carbon powder 5 is filled into the space between the inner surface of the metallic pipe 4 and the element fiber 1 (the polymer layer 3 laid on the fiber element wire 1), and an optical fiber cable 6 enclosed with a metallic pipe is constructed. As the carbon powder 5 is filled into the metallic pipe 4, even oxygen exists in the metallic pipe at a high temperature, this oxygen reacts with the carbon powder 5, so that the oxygen concentration may be extremely lowered resulting in hard degradation of the coating material.
