    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate between several-hundred kinds of beads by one measurement by increasing the kinds of the beads capable of being discriminated on the basis of fluorescence when the kinds of the beads are discriminated using the fluorescences emitted from the beads having probes on their surfaces.
      SOLUTION: Microbeads 12 are preliminarily dyed with a mixture of two kinds of fluorescent coloring matters different in fluorescence relaxation time constant and, at the time of detection of fluorescence, the fluorescences of the microbeads 12 wherein a bio-substance or the like is bonded to the probes to measure the fluorescence relaxation time constant to discriminate between the kinds of the microbeads 12 to which the bio-substance is bonded. Fluorescent coloring matter of a kind different from that of the fluorescent coloring matter used for dying the microbeads 12 is provided to the bio-substance and, upon detection of fluorescence, the microbeads 12 are irradiated with a laser beam and the fluorescence emitted upon irradiation is filtered not only to detect the fluorescence of the fluorescent coloring matter provided to the bio-substance but also to measure the fluorescence relaxiation time constant of the fluorescent coloring matter of the microbeads 12.
