摘要： PURPOSE:To make it possible to precisely measure the base band characteristic without any influence caused by disturbance such as a modal noise by employing an optical signal luminance-modulated by a measurement signal capable of frequency sweep and a reference signal of a low frequency signal. CONSTITUTION:A signal of frequency f1 transmitted from an oscillator 11 capable of frequency sweep and a signal of frequency f2 transmitted from an oscillator 12 whose oscillation frequency is fixed are mixed together in a mixer 13. The thus mixed signals are transmitted to a bias circuit 2 where they luminance- modulate an optical signal emitted from a semiconductor laser 3. The optical signal is made incident on one end of an optical fiber 4 to be measured. The optical signal emerging from the other end thereof is converted into an electric signal by means of a light-receiving element 5. This signal is inputted through an amplifier 6 to a branching filter 14 where the components of frequency f1 and frequency f2 are taken out. The components are respectively demodulated by selective level meters 15 and 16. Thereafter, an amplitude ratio of the thus demodulated signal is obtained by virtue of a ratio meter 17 and is then transmitted to an indicator 8. With this process, the disturbant elements are offset, whereby the precise base band characteristic can be measured.

摘要： PURPOSE:To make it possible to separate and measure only the effect of material dispersion with high precision by halving light amplitude-modulated with a single sine wave, by causing them to strike optical fibers differing in length and by measuring a phase difference between detection signals by varying the wavelength of light. CONSTITUTION:Light from variable wavelength light source 1, when passing through external modulator 2, is amplitude-modulated with a high-frequency signal from electric signal generator 3. This modulated light is branched into two by branching filter 4; one is incident to optical fiber 5, and the other to optical fiber 6 differing in length from optical fiber 5. Lights having propagated in optical fibers 5 and 6 are converted into electric signals by detectors 8 and 9 and phase difference measuring instrument 9 measures the phase difference. Next, the wavelength of light source 1 is slightly varied to measure the phase difference again and the wavelength is sequentially varied to measure a phase shift to the wavelength, so that the effect of material dispersion will be obtained.

摘要： PURPOSE:To execute with a high accuracy a measurement of an optical transmission characteristic, and to execute the measurement with an accuracy of an equal degree by a work of 1/2 of a usual one, by only setting the end face of a fiber to be measured, to a V-groove connector. CONSTITUTION:A fiber to be measured 7 and a dummy fiber 2', and the fiber to be measured 7 and a photodetecting side fiber 11 are coupled by a V-groove connector 5, and a V-groove connector 5', respectively. A coupling loss generated in each end face is generated by three causes, that is to say, due to misalignment of both fibers, etc., due to an air layer interposed between both the fibers, and due to a factor peculiar to the fiber such as diameters of both the fibers, a difference of refractive indexes, etc. Accordingly, it is possible to set so that thet which generates the coupling loss by a geometrical condition and a factor except a Fresnel reflection loss become zero. Accordingly, a measurement of an optical transmission characteristic can be executed with a high accuracy by only setting the end face of the geometrical fiber 7 to the V-groove connectors 5, 5', and the measurement can be executed with an accuracy of an equal degree by a work of 1/2 comparing with a conventional method.

摘要： PURPOSE:To deflect light beam at a high speed by making the leading end of an optical fiber freely oscillatable. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate part of an optical fiber 12 connected at its root end to a light source 11 is fixed to the root end of a housing 13 having a tapered pipe shape, and the leading end part of the optical fiber is made freely oscillatable around this root end. A rod lens 14 for light focusing and a rigid oscillating cylinder 15 conneting the fiber 12 are fitted to this leading end part, and the root end part of said cylinder is supported in the housing 13 via a spring 16. Magnetic materials 19, 20 are affixed to the leading end of said cylinder and the degree of deflection of the fiber 12 is changed by controlling the magnitude of the electric current to be flowed to a pair of electromagnetics 17, 18 which are fixed in the housing and oppose to each other by holding the fiber 12 therebetween in its diametral direction.

摘要： PURPOSE:To decrease the number of workers and incidental facilities when connecting several optical fiber cables, by permitting light, supplied from a following- cable side, to take U-turn motion to return by temporarily connecting fibers of the endmost preceding cable each other. CONSTITUTION:When a light transmission line is constituted by connecting optical fiber cables 1, 2, and 2', ends of optical fibers 4 and 10 of preceding cable 1 laid at the endmost part are connected temporarily at one terminal. Next, optical fiber 4 and optical fiber 4' of following cable 2 are connected temporarily to connection terminal 6. Light of light source 5 from temporarily connecting terminal 8 of optical fiber 4' is sent into optical fiber 4' and after a light output appearing at connection terminal 6 by taking U-turn motion is measured, optical fibers 10 and 10' are connected together eternally to measure the light output of said terminal 8, thereby calculating the connection loss. Next, temporarily connected part 12 is disconnected and then connected eternally in the same method. This is repeated to make connections, so that the number of workers and the telephone cable length for communication are decreased.

The tape 21 being let off from the pad is formed to an approximately regular triangular shape by a bending former 8 for tape. At the same time, the optical fiber 1 is contained in the triangle table. The constituting units 20 are obtained in this way and are then aggregated and twisted by an aggregating die 9 to produce a cable core 5.

Here, in order to maximize the excitation efficiency of the fiber, it is desirable that theta'' be by formula (2).

On the other hand, the emanating end of the fiber 1 is dipped in the regulating liquid similar to the adjusting device 3 and abuts against the reflective film having highly reflective characteristics for the waveforms of a light source so that the incident light to be measured having a sufficiently small core diameter from a light source 4 and an incidence optical system 5 is reflected at the terminal device 3 at the emanating side so that it passes back and forth in the optical fiber 1. As a result, if the photoelectricities of the incidence light and its reflected light are detected by optical detectors 6 and 7 which are connected at a low connection loss with the optical system 5, the loss measurement can be accomplished at the incidence end to require no communication with the emanating end so that the measurement can be accomplished easily and reliabliy in site.

摘要： PURPOSE:To secure a high-sensitivity detection for the position of the information medium by providing each detection part to the transmitter of the optical signal featuring plural different central wavelengths in correspondence to each central wavelength and then varying the specified wavelength through each detection part owing to the presence of the information medium. In case the leak trouble occurs at, for example, detection section l1, optical filter 10 intrudes into detection part 71 by the weight of the leaked substance. As a result, only central wavelength lambda1 has a change, and wave lambda1 enters receiver 61 with the optical level change. Thus this state is analyzed at receiver 61 to show the presence of the leaked substance at section l1. In such way, the presence and the position of the information medium, i.e., the leaked substance can be detected in a high sensitivity.
