    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably prevent phosphor particles 5 from aggregating when producing a phosphor in a heating process where crystallinity of precursor particles 1 of the phosphor is improved.SOLUTION: A method of producing a phosphor includes: dispersing the precursor particles 1 of the phosphor in an organic resin 3 to produce a precursor-dispersed paste 2; improving the crystallinity of the precursor particles 1 to produce the phosphor particles 5 in the presence of carbon 4 made by carbonizing the organic resin 3 present in the precursor-dispersed paste 2, thereby obtaining a mixture of the phosphor particles 5 and carbon 4; and thereafter subjecting the mixture to heating processing at temperature lower than the temperature at which the phosphor particles 5 are aggregated, thus removing the carbon 4.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a luminescent decay time of a conventional red fluorescent material is about 1 ms or longer in 1/10 decay and is extremely longer than a selection time of line sequential drive, therefore the red fluorescent material has a problem with degradation of movie display ability due to afterglow viewing. SOLUTION: The image display apparatus includes: a plurality of electron emitting devices arranged in a matrix shape; a drive circuit that drives the plurality of electron emitting devices through line scanning; and a face plate with cells formed therein comprising a red fluorescent material that receives electrons emitted from the electron emitting devices and emits red light, wherein gradation control is performed by varying an application time of a drive voltage that is applied to each of the plurality of electron emitting devices. A line selection time that is an application time of a drive voltage that is applied to each electron emitting device is longer than 1 μs and the red fluorescent material comprises a fluorescent material represented by the general formula: Me 2 Si 5 N 8 :Eu 2+ (Me is Ca or Sr).
