A capstan motor control circuit 8 ad a still reproduction control circuit 17 start operating simultaneously with a still reproduction instruction from a system controller 16. The circuit 17 detects the phase coincidence between periodic signals regarding outputs of the generators 13 and 15 and outputs the detection signal to the circuit 8 to stop the traveling of the tape 4.
