    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit image data in a form matched to a processing capability of a reception side device without giving any loads to a CPU of a transmission side device at the time of communication by acquiring information related to the processing capability of the reception side device at the time of facsimile transmission, selecting one of stored image data in plural formats in accordance with the information and transmitting them. SOLUTION: Facsimile equipment prepares image data compressed in a compression format which could be used for communication and non-compressed image data on a memory 2 in advance and, after communication processing starts, selects a transmission protocol of the image data in accordance with a processing capability on the reception side and transmits them. Thus, since even the image data compressed by using a compression algorithm of a high compression rate do not need to perform image format conversion processing during communication, it is possible to perform facsimile transmission without giving an excessive load to a CPU 3 in a format matched to the processing capability on the reception side.

    • PURPOSE: To provide the method and device for retrieving image with which high-speed image retrieval can be performed by utilizing information on the area of the closed area of a retrieval instructed retrieving image. CONSTITUTION: When the desired image to be retrieved including the closed area including a color, position and shape or the like is inputted from a retrieving image input part 3, the color of the desired image to be retrieved is compared with that of the closed area while referring to the color indexes of respective stored images, for which the pairs of the colors and areas of areas in a color index storage part 23 are mapped on a color space, and the total of the areas of the areas of stored images having an approximate color is compared with the area of the closed area so that the image to be the retrieving object can be narrowed down. An area similarity calculating part 25 calculates the degree of similarity between the stored image narrowed down like this way and the retrieving image so that the image can be retrieved.
