    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state laser apparatus which can improve durability. SOLUTION: In the solid state laser apparatus 1, a main pipe 11 for circulating cooling water to a solid state laser medium 3 is equipped with a heat exchanger 14 for cooling the cooling water, thereby preventing the temperature rise of the laser medium 3. When the cooling water becomes acidic or alkaline, a controller 24 controls a flow control valve 23 and increases the flow rate of the cooling water flowing into a bypass pipe 21 equipped with a pure water filter 22, so that acidity or alkalinity of the cooling water can be weakened. As a result, deterioration of the predetermined portion of the laser apparatus which is to be caused by the cooling water can be prevented, so that the durability of the solid state laser apparatus 1 can be improved. Further, the pure water filter 22 is installed in the bypass pipe 21 connected in parallel with a part of the main pipe 11, so that decrease of the flow rate of cooling water circulating the main pipe 11 is restrained, and decrease of cooling efficiency of the laser medium 3 can be prevented.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid state laser apparatus capable of cooling a solid state laser medium such that the temperature of the solid state laser medium is made uniform in the direction of the propagation of light to be amplified. SOLUTION: In the solid state laser apparatus 1, cooling water flowing through flow passages 12a, 12b makes direct contact with a pair of reflecting end surfaces 5a, 5b of the solid state laser medium 3, so that the laser medium 3 heated by excitation light emitted from a semiconductor laser 9 can be effectively cooled. Further, the cooling water flowing through the flow passages 12a, 12b flows substantially perpendicularly to a propagation plane P of the light L to be amplified, so that the solid state laser medium 3 can be cooled such that the temperature of the solid state laser medium 3 is made uniform in the direction of the propagation of the light L to be amplified.
