    • PURPOSE:To prevent the delay of return at the time of over steering by providing a steering control means, which receives the output of a steering detecting means and.selects a first gear ratio at the time of steering and selects a second gear ratio at the time of return. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 31 is provided with a steering detecting means 33 for detecting the steering and the return thereof, and is provided with a gear ratio selecting means 37, which receives the output of the steering detecting means 33 to selects a first gear ratio characteristic A or a second gear ratio characteristic B. A steering control means 38 receives the output of the gear ratio selecting means 37 to control a wheel steering means 24. The first gear ratio characteristic A shows a gear ratio at a relatively high constant value independent from the speed V. The second gear ratio characteristic B shows a gear ratio at a relatively low constant value independent from the speed V in the case of the first specified speed V1 or lower, and the gear ratio is increased more, as the speed is increased higher than the constant value in the case of the first specified speed V1 or higher.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of steering performance at occurance of failure in a speed sensor by providing means for detecting equipment actuation during low speed travelling so as to fix the transmission ratio of the wheel steering angle to a set value when such equipment actuation is detected at occurance of failure in the speed sensor. CONSTITUTION:When failure detecting means E detects failure in a speed sensor C, control means G actuates transmission ratio changing means D to perform a predetermined operation in accordance with the detection result of low speed travel actuation detecting means F. In the concrete, it transmits a signal to the transmission ratio changing means D to fix the transmission ratio to a set value. At this time, when the low speed travel actuation detecting means F detects equipment actuation by a driver during low speed travelling, the transmission ratio is converted to the set value. Therefore, the set value may be set to an intermediate value in the variable range of the transmission ratio so as to avoid deterioration of travelling safety at occurance of failure in the speed sensor C during high speed travelling, assuring good steering performance.
