    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a coefficient of friction by forming a base layer capable of elastically deforming at the frictional sliding time with a mating material on a support plate, and laminating a frictional surface containing a fiber basic material, filler material and a binder on the base layer. SOLUTION: A friction material is constituted of two layers of a base layer 1 and a friction surface layer 2. The layer 2 is fixed onto a support plate 3 via the base layer 1. The layer 1 has an elastic characteristic and is capable of elastically deforming according to the surface shape of a mating material when frictional sliding is made between it and the mating member. Owing to the elastic deformation of the layer 1, the layer 2 frictionally slides while following the surface shape of the mating material, and thereby the contact area with the mating material is increased, resulting in an increase in a coefficient of friction. In order to provide the layer 1 with an elastic characteristic, for example, the layer 1 is made of a rubber or resin plate or the like having a high elastic material. The layer 1 can also be made of a composite body composed of fibers and fiber entangled elastic fine particles.

    • PURPOSE:To stabilize the aging friction coefficient by forming a paper base material from a paper making raw liquid containing a fiber base material and a filler, coating fine fibers having the diameter of a specific value on the surface of the paper base material, impregnating it with a binder, and heating, pressurizing, and molding it. CONSTITUTION:Cellulose fibers and Aramid fibers are selected for base material fibers, and an inorganic filler, an organic filler, and water are added to prepare a paper making raw liquid. A paper base material having the preset thickness is made with this paper making raw liquid by a paper making machine, the friction surface is coated with fine fibers made of Aramid fibers and having the diameter of 2mum or below in the wet state to form a fiber-coated paper base material. It is dried by a hot press, it is impregnated with phenol resin serving as a binder, and it is thermo-molded and cut into the preset shape to obtain a friction material. When it is coated with fine fibers, the surface roughness is reduced, the contact area is increased, the initial friction coefficient is improved, and the aging change of the friction coefficient is resolved.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a friction material of excellent heat resistance and durability, by overlapping a friction surface side layer, in which a paper quality base material consisting of fiber component, inorganic filling agent and a friction adjusting agent is impregnated with thermo-setting resin, with a fixed surface side layer, in which a paper quality material consisting of fiber component is impregnated with thermo-setting resin, and restricting gas holes in each paper quality base material. CONSTITUTION:Water soluble dispersion fluid 5, mixed with a fiber component, inorganic filling agent and a friction adjusting agent, is allowed to flow on a papermaking net 6, performing papermaking. Water soluble dispersion fluid 8, containing glass fiber and/or pulp, is allowed to flow on roll paper 7 made being not dried, obtaining two layers of paper quality components 10 as a base material performing papermaking. Next, this paper quality component 10 is impregnated with thermo-setting resin being heated and hardened, thus obtaining a wet type friction material 1. Here a friction surface side layer 2 forms its paper quality base material such that its porosity is 50-65% with gas holes of size of 5mu or less occupying 80% the total gas holes. A fixed side surface layer 3 sets each value to 40-70%. In this way, the wet type friction material excellent in durability and heat resistance can be obtained.
