    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic torque transmission device capable of effectively cooling each friction engagement plate at a time of cancellation of lock up of a lock up mechanism and of quickly shifting to a lock up condition from the lock up cancellation condition.
      SOLUTION: A torque converter 14 is provided with a converter housing 17, a pump impeller 18 and a turbine runner 23, and is provided with the lock up mechanism 27 between the turbine runner 23 and the converter housing 17. The lock up mechanism 27 is provided with a piston 28 moving based on hydraulic pressure fluctuation of ATF flowing between the turbine runner 23 and the converter housing 17, a plurality of driven plates 32 supported by the converter housing 17, and a plurality of drive plates 35 supported by the piston 28. Also, a through hole 33 establishing communication between an engine arrangement side of the piston and a transmission arrangement side of the piston 28 is formed in the piston 28.
