    • PURPOSE:To permit changing of sheet gauge sizes with good accuracy in a tandem rolling mill by making the start point and end point for charging the target tension of a stand coincident respectively with the start point and end point of changing the size when the start point for changing the size arrives at a control system for specifying the tension behind said stand. CONSTITUTION:Work rolls 2-5 are driven by electric motors 6-9, and a material 1 to be rolled is rolled. The speeds of the motors are controlled with control systems 10-13, and the tensions on the material 1 between the stands are measured with tension meters 18-20, which tensions are transmitted with control systems 21-23 for specifying tension to rolling down control systems for moving the rolls upward and downward. When the start point for changing the sheet gauge size of the material 1 passes the (j)-th stand, the target value Tj-1 of the tension between the (j-1)-th stand and the (j)-th stand is derived from the prescribed equation, and the result thereof is transmitted to the control systems 21-23 for specifying the tension between the (j-1)-th stand and the (j)-th stand. The control is thus accomplished until the (j) attains the total number N of the stands.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the accuracies of the length and thickness of an off-gauge part, by changing the sheet thickness at the top and bottom parts of a coil during rolling, and performing the rolling by combining a schedule calculation for obtaining the target sheet thickness and an AGC in absolute value of a whole stand. CONSTITUTION:The length of an outer peripheral portion of one turn is calculated by turns of rolled coils by inputting a coil information about the thickness, the width, the weight, and the coil thickness, etc. of a sheet to be rolled, and the result is used as the target off-gauge length. The off-gauge length is used in calculation as the length at the inlet side of one stand, and is used for a changing point of the sheet thickness during rolling. For changing the sheet thickness in actual rolling, a rolling draft, the number of revolutions, an AGC in absolute value are set up and a change of setting of a thickness gauge is performed by tracking the changing point of the sheet thickness during rolling. In a case when a sheet is free from tension at the front or rear side of each stand by the condition of biting or passing through of the sheet resulting from passing or run-out of the sheet at said stand, a schedule calculation is performed so as to obtain the target sheet thickness. Two kinis of the target sheet thickness at the middle and the off-gauge parts may be required.

    • PURPOSE:To make use of the heat retained in a strip after hot rolling and to economize the consumption of driving power for cold rolling by subjecting said strip in a high temp. state to mechanical descaling then cooling the same to a proper temp. and cold rolling the cooled strip. CONSTITUTION:A strip which is uncoiled from a hot rolled coil 1 of a high temp. is passed through a rolling mill 2 of light rolling down to fine coil break and is then conducted to a mechanical descaling device 3, where the strip is descaled by blasting of a slurry contg. sand iron in the state of the high temp. The strip is conducted into a temp. controller 4 where the strip is cooled down to the temp. optimum for cold rolling and is then passed through a cold rolling mill 5. The temp. of the strip to be passed through the mill 5 is selected within the temp. range of about 50-250 deg.C and at the temp. at which the rolling load is least according to the steel kind of the strip. The heat is recovered through the salt bath or rolling mill oil or the like used in said controller 3, whereby the energy is economized additionally.
