    • PURPOSE:To lower the height of an engine even in using a multicylinder engine for secure the sight of passengers by arranging cylinders of the engine transversely and arranging the crank shaft transversely in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:In arranging the cylinders of an engine 21 transversely and also arranging a crank shaft 22 transversely in the longitudinal direction, the shaft 22 is arranged displaced from the center face of a propulsion casing 36 at the time when the casing 36 is set at the rectilinear propagation position a propulsion casing 36, and an engine side power transmission shaft 100 is also arranged on the center face mentioned above, and a gear train 101 is arranged between the shaft 22 and the shaft 100. Therefore, each over hanging quantity to the port side and starboad side of the engine 21 in relation to the center face of the casing 36 is nearly equalized, and as a result, the inboard spaces formed on both right and left sides of the engine 21 are nearly equalized to each other, and the inboard spaces are effectively utilized. Since the cylinders of the engine 21 is transversely arranged, even in the case where a multi-cylinder engine is used, the height of the engine 21 can be lowered to the extent of not obstructing the sight of passengers.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a high noise reduction effect by providing a communicating port to the top dead center side than an exhaust port in a cylinder inner surface while providing an exhaust decompression chamber in communication to the communicating port, and making the communicating port so as to open and close in a fixed timing with reciprocating movement of a piston. CONSTITUTION:A two cycle engine 13 equipped to a propulsion unit 12 of an outboard engine 10 houses a piston 18 in a cylinder 17 formed by a cylinder block 14, and charges a gas mixture sucked in a crank-case 23 via a reed valve 24 into a combustion chamber 22 via a scavenging passage 27. The engine ignites and explodes the gas mixture inside the combustion chamber 22, and exhausts exhaust gas from an exhaust port 28. In this case, a communicating port 30 is provided to the top dead center side than the exhaust port 28 in the cylinder 17 inner surface, while an exhaust decompression chamber 31 communicating to the communicating port 30 is provided. This communicating port 30 is formed in a position where it is opened by the piston 18 before opening of the exhaust port 28 in an expansion stroke of the piston and further completely opened immediately before a stage of opening the exhaust port 28.
