CONSTITUTION:A fine grain purifier 4, interposed in the downstream of an exhaust manifold in an internal combustion engine, is constituted by housing a filter member 42, consisting of porous ceramic material, in a vessel 41 through a shock absorbing member 44 and sealing member 45, and jointing an electric heater 43 to an end side in the upstream side of said filter member. At this time, the electric heater 43 is formed to annular shape with a heating unit 43b to one side of an electric insulator base plate 43a by the method of evaporation or printing, and conductors 43c are connected to the both ends of the heating unit and similarly formed to electrically conduct said unit. Then an electric insulator 43b is formed to film shape by printing fully over the base plate 43a so as to coat these heating unit 43b and conductors 43c, to constitute the purifier.

    • PURPOSE:To enable to effectively trap fine particles contained in exhaust gases by providing a plurality of projections on a skeleton of a porous ceramic body which skelton provides inside continuous spaces for passage of exhaust gases. CONSTITUTION:The structure A for cleaning the exhaust gases of an internal- combustion engine of an automobile or the like consists of the porous ceramic body 1 of a three-dimensional network structure having the inside continuous spaces 2 communicated with the exterior. The skeleton 3 comprising the spaces 2 is covered by a ceramic layer 4 having a plurality of the projections 4a. To produce the structure A, for example, a cylindrical foamed body of an organic material (polyurethane or the like) of a three-dimensional network structure having inside continuous spaces communicated with the exterior is applied with a predetermined amount of a slurry of cordierite powders containing a binder by repeating an infiltration-drying cycle. Then, a urethane-based slurry of cordierite powders and other slurry are infiltrated into the inside spaces and are foamed on the surfaces of the skeleton of the cylindrical foamed body, followed by drying and sintering to obtain the structure A.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency in cleaning exhaust gases by providing a plurality of projections on the inside walls of through-holes for passing exhaust gases in honeycomb structure. CONSTITUTION:The ceramic honeycomb structure 1 consisting mainly of cordierite and used for cleaning the exhaust gases emitted from an internal-combustion engine of an automobile or the like has a plurality of through-holes 2. The inside walls of the through-holes 2 are provided with a ceramic layer 3 having a plurality of the projections 3a arranged irregularly thereon. To produce the structure, pellets of a combustible organic material such as a resin or carbon are packed into the through-holes 2 of the honeycomb structure 1, and then a slurry of a mixture containing a cordierite powder, methyl cellulose and water is poured into the gaps left after the packing. Further, air in the through-holes 2 is completely evacuated by a vacuum pump or the like, followed by drying and sintering, whereby the organic material is burned away to obtain the structure A provided with the projections 3a.

    • PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of discharge of unburned hydrocarbon at the time of ignition and extinction of fire through a comparatively small-sized device by a method wherein a fuel is vaporized after it is mixed with heated combustion air.
      CONSTITUTION: Air supplied from a combustion air supply device comprising a pump or the like flows into the liquid fuel combustion apparatus from an air inlet of the latter. Then, the air passes through an electrical heater block 2 to be heated up to a temperature between about 200 and 300°C and flows into a mixing chamber 4 via a communication hole 3. On the other hand the fuel supplied from a liquid fuel supply device flows into the combustion apparatus through a pipe 5 and is injected into the mixing chamber 4 through a nozzle 5a. As a result, the fuel is subjected to a high speed stream of the heated combustion air so that the amount of discharge of the unburned hydrocarbon at the time of ignition and extinction of fire can be reduced.
