    • PURPOSE:To enhance particle removal performance by forming a gas filter of a porous membrane of the polymer having the pores vertical to the membrane surface and the average hole diameter thereof, wherein the ratio of major to minor diameter, being within a specified range. CONSTITUTION:A gas filter is formed of a porous membrane of the polymer capable of being formed into a film which has pores substantially vertical to at least one side of the membrane surface. The aforesaid pore having an average hole diameter of 0.5-10mum, the ratio of major to minor diameter being 1.0-2.0 and a coefficient of hole diameter variation being 0-50% is present at an opening rate of 35-75%, the hole rate of the porous membrane being 50-90% as a whole. As the polymer capable of being formed into the aforesaid film, poly vinylidene fluoride or polytetrafluoroethylene copolymer is used in this example. The gas filter thus formed is small in pressure loss yet excellent in the particle removal performance.

    • PURPOSE:To dehydrate and concentrate an aqueous carrageenan solution without deteriorating it with superior power consumption efficiency, by providing two cation exchange membranes between an anode and a cathode and further a hydrophilic porous membrane between these cation exchange membranes, introducing successively from the anode side an alkaline electrolyte solution, an aqueous carragenan solution, etc., and applying a voltage between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Two alkali-resistant and heat-resistant cation exchange membranes (e.g. perfluorocarbonsulfonic acid membranes) having a cation transference number of 0.95 or more, and an electroendosmosis constant of 20mol. H2O/F or less are provided between an anode and a cathode in an electroendosmosis apparatus or the like, and a hydrophilic microporous membrane having an average pore diameter of 50Angstrom -5mu through which carrageenan cannot permeate but water and ions can permeate is provided between the two membranes. An alkaline electrolyte solution is introduced at least into the anode side, and an aqueous carrageenan solution having a concentration of 0.01-10wt.% is introduced in between the cation exchange membrane on the anode side and the hydrophilic microporous membrane. Then, a voltage is applied between the electrodes so that the DC voltage applied to the aqueous carrageenan solution may be 1-1,000V, and water is removed from between the microporous membrane and the cation exchange membrane on the cathode side to dehydrate and concentrate the aqueous carrageenan solution.
