    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for thermally treating acrylic fibers, by which the stabilized acrylic fibers can be obtained after the thermal treatment.
      SOLUTION: This method for thermally treating the acrylic fibers comprises setting the acrylic fibers accumulated in a container 1 to the inside of a closed pot, first repeating pressure-reducing treatments and steam-pressurizing treatments in the closed pot to replace air by steam, pressurizing the reduced pressure state with steam in the above-described replacement treatment, performing pressure-reducing treatments and steam-pressurizing treatments several times, performing a pressure-reducing treatment, and finally returning to the ordinary pressure to finish the thermal treatment.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the loss of a structural mismatching and to obtain the plastic optical fiber having excellent transmission performance by constituting the plastic optical fiber of polymers for forming respective layers of a fiber layer/sheath layer/protective layer, the melt index values (M.I. values) of which satisfy specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The polymer for forming the fiber material is required to be formed of the polymer having the M.I. value smaller than 5/9 M.I. value of the polymer for forming the sheath. The optical fiber having good optical transmission characteristics is obtd. if such conditions are satisfied. The M.I. value of the polymer for forming the sheath material is set smaller than 7/9 of the M.I. value of the polymer for forming the protective layer, by which the structural mismatching at the boundary of the fiber material layer/sheath material layer and the boundary between the sheath material layer/the protective layer is improved.
