SOLUTION: A cutter head 6 is divided into four small cutter heads 6a-6d, four small cutter heads 6a-6d are arranged at the upper, lower, right and left positions, parallel link motions in the opposite directions having the revolving speed suitable for the soil quality of the natural ground G to be excavated are applied to the small cutter heads 6a-6d adjoining vertically and laterally to excavate the natural ground G. The torque reaction of the whole cutter head caused by the excavation of the natural ground G when the parallel link motion is applied to the single cutter head with a large cross sectional area can be reduced, thereby the occurrence of rolling and pitching of a shield machine can be sharply suppressed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground excavator and a constructing method of a branch type shield tunnel which enable excavation of tunnels with varied sections, including a large-section tunnel and a plurality of small-section tunnels, and which agitate no excessive earth at the time of excavation of the small-section tunnels and have few components becoming unnecessary at the time when the excavation changes from that for the large-section tunnel to that for the small-section ones. SOLUTION: An underground excavator 20 having a constitution wherein a plurality of separate shield machines are connected separably, with a connecting shield machine held between, so that they enable excavation of a tunnel 23 of a section of an underground railway double track station part, in the connected state and wherein the separate shield machines are separated by removing the connecting shield machine so that a plurality of small-section tunnels can be so excavated by each separate shield machine as to branch off from the tunnel 23 of the section of the underground railway double track station part. Each shield machine is provided with excavating parts which excavate a face by conducting parallel link movement respectively, and at the time of excavation of the tunnel 23 of the section of the underground railway double track station part, setting is made so that the excavating parts may excavate the face by conducting the parallel link movement integrally.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position participating in excavation and an unparticipating position, and reduce the excavating torque and the pressing force by half by forming a freely rotatable cutter frame in an umbrella-shaped projection forwarded to the center, and arranging plural cutter bits. SOLUTION: An excavating part 24 of an excavator 21 supports a cutter frame 28 by a partition wall part 23 through a parallel crank mechanism 30 so as to be movable in parallel. A large number of cutter bits 29 are arranged on a front face of the cutter frame 28, and bedrock G is excavated. Since the cutter frame 28 is formed in an almost conical umbrella shape whose central part projects forward, a cutter bit 29 participating in excavation of the bedrock G and an unparticipating cutter bit 29 alternately appear by a rotational position of the cutter frame 28. Excavating torque and pressing force are not necessary for the cutter bit 29 unparticipating in excavation, and a motive power source can be miniaturized. A work space in the excavator also becomes wide, and a work environment is improved, and when an excavating distance is shortened, an abrasion loss is also reduced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the collapse of a heading accurately, and to obviate the large-scale collapse of ground from the heading at the time of the danger of facing collapse during shield excavation and at the time of shield stop. SOLUTION: The shield machine 1 is constituted in a type that a cutter head 5 is rotated through a parallel link motion, ground 44 is excavated and the cutter head 5 is propelled, and a heading 45 is stabilized by the pressure of excavated materials 46 and slurry. A facing hold-down body 21 formed in approximately the same shape as the sectional shape of a hood 4 for the shield machine 1 is arranged between the partition wall 3 of the shield machine 1 and the cutter head 5, and the facing hold-down body 21 is retreated to the partition wall 3 side at the time of shield excavation, and connected to a hold- down body operating jack 27 forward moving the facing hold-down body 21 to a place fast stuck to the cutter head 5 at the time of the danger of facing collapse during shield excavation or at the time of shield stop at that time.
