    • PURPOSE:To control and project high-hardness fine inorg. particulate powder to a desired height from a magnetic coated film contg. the high-hardness fine inorg. particulate powder coated on a substrate by grinding the coated film by using abrasive grains which are lower in hardness than the high-hardenss fine inorg. particulate powder and higher in hardness than the magnetic coated film. CONSTITUTION:Grinding fluid supply nozzles 1a, 1b are provided above the point where wrapping tapes 2a, 2b are held pressed to a magnetic disk 4 and the grinding fluid is kept supplied therefrom. The tapes 2a, 2b are respectively fed in the directions of arrows B, C so that always the fresh surface contact the magnetic disk 4. The high-hardness fine inorg. particulate powder 5 is incorporated into the magnetic coated film 6 on the magnetic disk substrate 4. The dislodgment of the high-hardness fine inorg. particulate powder 5 is low in the coated film state obtd. by the working; in addition, the projection height is stably obtd. up to the desired height. Alumina grains are used as, for example, the high-hardness fine inorg. particulate powder 5 and chromium oxide grains are used as the abrasive grains.

    • PURPOSE:To efficiently remove the microprojections being present on a magnetic disk surface by pressing a polishing medium via a pressing member having a large inherent oscillation frequency on the surface of a rotating magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:Contact rubber rollers 4 are held by parallel leaf springs 5 advantageous for increasing the value of a spring constant (k) and are opened/ closed on two sliding bars 8 by the action of tapered pieces 6 provided on an air cylinder 16 to pressurize the polishing tape to a disk 1. A motor plate 14 which supports driving motors 11 is disconnected from the rollers 4 and set in the position where the positional relation between the rollers 4 and a take-up roll 10 is not deviated in order to reduce the weight of the tape head system. The weight of the tape head in such constitution is the weight of the rollers 4 alone and is small and the inherent oscillation frequency of the tape head system is increased by selecting largely the spring constant k. Consequently, the follow-up property of the tape head is improved and the magnetic disk medium having the excellent surface smoothness is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To enable a device to efficiently perform polishing using polishing tapes of large width, by providing a means, which pressurizes a back surface of the polishing tape with desired distribution, and performing the polishing to be controlled so that its speed obtains a desired value. CONSTITUTION:Polishing tapes 2, 12, wound by winding mechanisms 5, 15, are arranged on a picture of a magnetic disc 1, which is a work, further held by pressurizing parts 3, 13. These pressurizing parts 3, 13, providing two rows of three throttle holes 32 to be drilled over the magnetic disc 1 from its internal peripheral p[arts Ri to peripheral part Ro, form a pressurizing chamber 31 on a surface brought into contact with the polishing tapes 2, 12 in the bottom end of said holes, and a polishing device, which respectively introduces fluid pressures P1-P6 suitably set by a pressurizing force regulating system 4, uniformly presses the polishing tapes 2, 12 to the magnetic tape 1. Under this condition, the device, rotating the magnetic disc 1 in a desired rotary speed, performs polishing. In this way, a surface of optional shape of the work can be efficiently further high accurately polished by using the polishing tape of large width.
