    • PURPOSE:To keep the tension of a tape constant and carry out flattening machining with high accuracy by installing a brake and a tachometer on a tape feed reel shaft and a tachometer on a capstan shaft on which a tape driving motor is provided, and controlling said brake with the signals of both tachometers. CONSTITUTION:The braking torque of a brake 3 installed on a tape feed reel shaft 2 is controlled by the signals of a tachometer 7 installed on a capstan shaft 6 and a tachometer 8 installed on the tape feed reel shaft 2. A tape 1 is fed in the direction of the arrow 9 by means of a driving motor 10 and the speed of the tape 1 can be measured by the tachometer 7 installed on the capstan shaft 6. Also, by measuring the rotating speed of a tape feed reel 4, the remaining quantity of a tape diameter at that time can be known from the tape speed. Here, by varying the braking torque of, i.e., a voltage to be applied to, the brake 3, the tension of the tape 1 can be made constant regardless of the remaining quantity of the tape. Accordingly, the flattening machining of a magnetic film surface coated on a magnetic disk can be carried out with high accuracy.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate effectively only microprojections on the surface of a magnetic disk medium by setting the peripheral speed and the processing pressure of the medium at a prescribed level respectively by means of a polishing tape after processing the surface of the medium with the polishing tape. CONSTITUTION:The disk 1 of a magnetic disk medium is chucked by a spindle and turned. Contact rubber rollers 4 are held by parallel plate springs 5 which are effective to increase the value of spring contact K. These rollers 4 open and close on two slide bars 8 by the function of a tapered core 6 provided to an air cylinder 16 and press a polishing tape having =250m/min and with processing pressure set for the tape 12. Thus it is possible to delete only microprojections existing on the surface of the disk 1.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate burrs and projections of a disk and to easily clean the disk after treatment by removing grooves formed by texturing of the surface of a Ni-P substrate and specifying the surface roughness of the plate CONSTITUTION:An aluminum substrate 1 (a) is used as a disk substrate, on which a Ni-P plating film 2 is formed to 10-30mum thickness by electroless plating (b). The surface of the plating film 2 is polished with a processing liquid containing an abrasive powder (c), and then cleaned to remove residual matter (d). Then the surface is treated with a surface treating liquid and treating cloth in the circumferencial direction (e). The residue after the treatment is washed out (f), and then a Cr base layer 3, Co magnetic film 4, and C protective film 5 of specified thickness are successively formed on the surface of the substrate 8 by sputtering (g). Further, dust or projections produced in this film forming process are treated with a surface processing machine using only a tape (h). No processing liquid is used. Then the surface is controlled by exposing to an atmosphere of satd. vapor pressure (i) so that a lubricant film can be easily adhered to the surface. A lubricant 6 is applied (j) and the disk is subjected to finish inspection (k). Since no burr or projection is produced in the process of surface treatment (e) or in other processes, nor abrasive powder is used, good cleaning can be easily done after treatment.

Namely, the coating compd. formed of a solvent, filler 2, magnetic material 3 and binder 4 by kneader kneading ball mill kneading filtering stages is uniformly coated on the surface of the aluminum substrate 1 finished to a specular surface by diamond grinding. The surface lubricating agent 5 is further coated in the form of speckles on the surface of the coating compd. after the coating compd. is subjected to orienting, curing and working of the coated film. The coating of the surface lubricating agent 5 to a required thickness on the coating compd. and the reduction of the effective contact area of the magnetic head and the surface lubricating agent 5 of the magnetic recording medium are, therefore, possible. The necessary sliding resistance strength is thus imparted to the coating compd. by thick coating of the surface lubricating agent 5 thereon and the attraction of the magnetic head and the surface lubricating agent 5 of the magnetic recording medium is prevented.
