    • PURPOSE:To improve the starting performance and output performance of an engine by forming the upstream side of the lower edge surface of the piston of a variable venturi type carburetor into a flat sealing surface, and opening a suction hole at that part and forming a cut part towards the downstream of the undersurface of the piston from the suction hole. CONSTITUTION:A needle valve 4 having a thin diameter part at one part is fixed at the lower edge surface of a suction piston 3 installed in slidable ways onto the upstream side of a throttle valve 6. A flat surface 48 continuous to the surface of a suction passage 5 is formed onto the upstream side of the lower edge surface of the piston 3, and a suction hole 18 is formed at one part of the flat surface 48. A cut part 50 is formed towards the inclined surface 48 on the downstream side of the undersurface of the piston from the suction hole 18. Since the falt surface 48 is closely attached onto the surface of the suction passage when an engine starts, the leakage of inhaled air stream is prevented, and a large amount of fuel is inhaled from between the thin-diameter part 24 and a jet 21. When a negative pressure is generated, said negative pressure is certainly introduced into the piston from the cut part 50.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a combustion state as well as fuel property in a short time in the area where the number of rotation of an engine just after starting is not stabilized, namely in an early stage after starting. SOLUTION: When a favorable combustion is compared with a rough combustion by a heavy quality fuel, a rapid increase in rotation speed is seen in either case, in the term from a start up to a complete explosion but at the dropping area of rotation speed thereafter, the rotation change rate in the rough combustion case is a vary bigger value than that of the favorable combustion. The increase of a rotation required time, namely the drop of the rotation speed between the last ignition cycle and a present ignition cycle is detected and the rotation change rate is found out. When this rotation change rate exceeds a judging base value, by judging that the combustion is deteriorated due to the heavy quality of a fuel property, the combustion state is detected immediately in the area just after starting, while removing the rapid increase area of rotation speed at the starting time.
