    • PURPOSE:To uniform the press contact forces of plural grinding bodies which are housed in the axial direction of rolls and are brought into press contact with roll surfaces and to grind the rolls with high accuracy by inclining the forward and backward moving directions relative to the roll axes at the time of moving the grinding bodies back and forth and grinding the roll surfaces. CONSTITUTION:The plural grinding wheels 3 mounted to the top end of a grinding heel holder 4 are housed into a frame 6 and are brought into press contact with the surface of the work roll 1 by means of pistons connecting to the rear ends of holders 4. The frame 6 moves back and forth along a guide 9a on a stand 9 provided to a housing 2 via a cylinder 10. The inclination theta of the center line OG of the guide 9a with the axial line OR of the roll is provided to this device. The size of the angle theta is set larger then alphaamax alphabmax of the inclination alphaa of a step part S with the axial line OR arising from the wear of the roll 1 or the similar inclination alphab of the crowning part. The forward or backward travel of the grinding wheels is uniformed and the grinding quantity within the respective travels is uniformed by the above-mentioned method regardless of the profile of the roll surface.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent flawing of a product and to stabilize a rolling operation by transferring a clad steel while the lower part of the soft material thereof is held immersed in water and finishing work rolls in such a manner that the work roll on the hard material side has the surface rougher than the surface of the work roll on the soft material side. CONSTITUTION:The clad material with the hard material 2 positioned above and the soft material 1 below is transferred on transfer rollers 4. The clad material is transferred while the lower part of the soft material 1 in contact with the rollers 4 is kept immersed together with the transfer rollers 4 into the water and is thereby kept cooled. The deformation resistance of the hard part 2 and the cooled part 3 is thus made the same by the decreased temp. in the cooled part 3 of the material 1. The surface of the work roll 6 in contact with the hard material 2 is finished rougher than the surface of the work roll 7 on the soft material side so that the respective coeffts. of friction are made the same. The uniform rolling is executed by such method and the generation of flaws of the material 2 is prevented. Since bending is prevented, the rolling operation is stabilized.

CONSTITUTION:The defective shape of center elongation, lug wave, etc. is caused on a metallic strip sheet because of the internal part residual stress becoming uneven in its longitudinal direction and width direction by the conditions at rolling time and uneven temp. distribution. Four pieces of small levelling roll 11, three pieces of mid levelling roll 12 and four pieces of large levelling roll 13 are arranged in zigzags the upper and lower in progressing direction on the roller leveller device to straighten said defective shape. In case of the shape correction of a thin sheet material B the sheet material B is passed from the small diameter roll 11 in the direction of the large diameter roll 13 and in case of the thick plate material C it is passed from the large diameter roll 13 in the direction of the small diameter roll 11 for shape straightening. The shape correction of both thin and thick sheet materials can be performed with one unit of roller leveller.

    • PURPOSE:To grasp a roll profile perfectly, by moving three displacement detectors, which are arranged at an equal interval L from one end part of the roll to the other end, and operating the data measured by the three displacement detectors at every moving distance L. CONSTITUTION:Three displacement detectors A, B and C are arranged in the axial direction of a roll 1 at an equal interval L. The detectors are moved along a guide surface 3 in approximately parallel with the axial center of the roll 1. The measured values on the generator of the inner tube of the same roll are obtained at every moving distance by the detectors A, B and C. The positions of the displacement detectors shown by solid lines are made to be the measurement starting position. The measurements are continued up to the positions shown by broken lines in the direction of an arrow. The (K+2)-th error XK+2 in straightness is computed by the expression XK+2=2.XK+1-XK-2.DK-1.C+ DK-2.C+2.DK.B-DK.A+2Y0, where DK.A, DK.B and DK.C are measured values by the displacement detectors A, B and C at the K-th measuring positions; X0, X1,...XK are errors in straightness of the guide surface 3 in correspondence with the positions; and Y0, Y1,...YN are the roll profile errors.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the diameter of leveling rolls and to reduce the size of a device in a roller leveler having two rows of upper and lower leveling roll groups which are staggered above and below by permitting change over of rolls in a sheet feed side to driving and non-driving by means of clutches. CONSTITUTION:The clutches 11, 11' are interposed between spindles for driving the inlet side roll and the output shaft of a pinion stand 9 among the spindles 10, 10... for driving the upper and lower leveling rolls 1, 1..., 2, 2.... The clutches can be engaged and disengaged as desired during driving. The inlet side roll 2a is connected to the driving roll (by engaging the clutch 11) to feed a sheet material 5 in the stage of biting the top end of the material 5. The roll 2a is not driven (by disengaging the clutch) and the leveling operation is continued when the stationary state is thereafter attained. The circulation torque to be exerted on the leveling rolls can be reduced by the above-mentioned roller leveler, by which the reduction in the diameter of the rolls and the size of the leveler is made possible.

    • PURPOSE:To perform thorough press welding and to reduce cost by cutting the end of the plates to be joined respectively to a projecting shape and a corresponding recessed shape at the prescribed radius of curvature then butting the cut faces via a flux and hot rolling the plates. CONSTITUTION:The tail end of the preceding plate material B and the top end of the succeeding plate material A are cut to the arc shape having the radius of curvature of 2-3 times the plate width by a drum shear. The flux consisting of silica sand, etc. is sprayed to the cut surfaces and the ends of the materials A, B are butted to each other by pushing forward the material A by pinch rolls PR. The materials A, B are then fed to the 1st stand of a finishing mill by the rolls PR and are hot rolled by work rolls 3. The joint surfaces S are rolled in this stage, by which the plate materials A, B are thoroughly press-welded. Since the butt part is arc shaped, the joining position in the transverse direction of the plate is different in the roll bite and the rupture of the joint surfaces is prevented. The thorough joining and the reduction of the cost are thus made possible.
