    • The present invention relates to a head supporting mechanism comprising a slider (50) on which a head (60) for recording and/or reproducing data on and from a recording medium is installed; a slider supporting member (32) for supporting the slider; a load beam (20) having a protrusion (28) placed on a free end thereof; and a flexure (30) with a flexure substrate (31) disposed at the load beam (20); wherein the flexure (30) is extending the flexure substrate (31) in the longitudinal direction and the slider supporting member (32) is supported by the free part (33f) of the extended end of the flexure (30); the load beam (20) supports the slider supporting member (32) by the protrusion (28) so as to pivot thereon around an axis of the protrusion (28) in the normal direction of the load beam to provide tracking compensation, a pair of displacement members (40a, 40b) is disposed on the flexure (30) between the flexure substrate (31) and the slider supporting member (32) side of a free end of the flexure extending from the flexure substrate, and the slider supporting member (32) comprises a main section (32a) and a slider-center-of-gravity holding section (32b) connected to the main section (32a) so as to allow the protrusion (28) on the load beam (20) to contact, whereby the slider-center-of-gravity holding section (32b) having a stepped structure (32b).

    • A load beam (20) is attached to an actuator arm that is allowed to rock around a pivotal axis by a voice coil motor, etc., as a slider supporting member, the base end of a flexure (30) is attached to the load beam (20) with the free end thereof being left, a slider supporting member (32) is attached to the top portion of the flexure (30), a slider (50) on which a recording/reproduction head (60) is installed is secured to the slider supporting member (32), and the slider supporting member (32) is supported by a protrusion (28) placed on the free end side of the load beam (20) so as to be freely pivot thereon. In a tracking compensation operation of the head, forces are exerted on the slider supporting member (32) through the elastic hinge portion by extending and contracting operations of the pair of thin-film piezoelectric elements so that the slider (50) is allowed to pivot around the protrusion (28) of the load beam serving as the center of pivotal movements, together with the slider supporting member (32).

The cleaning mechanism, which is configured to engage the head (16), includes the cleaning pad (22) mounted to a carrier (20) disposed near the head (16). The cleaning pad (22) is constructed of a multiplicity of fibers (36) integrated into and projecting from the backing (38).

    • A method and an arrangement for bringing a load carrier (10; 13) to different predetermined positions along a given movement path. A pulse emitter is provided for generating pulse signals and delivering the signals to a computer unit in which the position of the load carrier is calculated by counting pulses from a reference value. The pulse emitter includes a pulse emitting rail (25; 26) which is provided with pulse markings (30) and extends along the movement path of the load carrier, and a sensor unit (24; 27) which is mounted on the load carrier for movement along the pulse emitting rail and for recording the pulse markings (30) on or in the rail. The detected pulse markings are converted to pulse signals in the sensor unit and these signals are delivered to the computer unit in a number which is relative to the number of detected pulse markings. Each predetermined position is stored in the computer unit as a function of the number of pulse signals received, starting from the reference value and the number of pulse signals received in regard of each position is compared with the number fed into the computer.

    • A rotating disk-shape recording medium (1) has, on each of its opposite sides, a recording area which is divided in a radial direction into n recording zones (a₁,a₂,b₁,b₂). Further, the first group of n heads and the second group of n heads respectively constitute n pairs of heads each being consituted by an i-th head from an outermost head of the first group and an i-th head from an innermost head of the second group ( i = 1 through n) such that a sum of linear velocities of each pair of heads is substantially constant and equal to a sum of linear velocities of another pair of heads.
