    • Water dispensing apparatus which is intended to dispense sterilised chilled water comprising a sterilisation unit having an inlet for connection to mains water supply and having its outlet connected to a refrigeration unit, the refrigeration unit having a tap or dispensing valve. Preferably, the sterilising unit comprises an ultra violet ray lamp, surrounded by an outer tube through which water flows between inlet and outlet. If desired a water reservoir may be connected to the steriliser, the arrangement being such that water is sterilised both on entering the reservoir and on leaving the reservoir and so that make-up air is sterilised on entering the reservoir.

    • A system for diaphragm distillation of a liquid, for example for desalination of salt water, comprising a diaphragm, through which vapour, but not liquid can pass, and a condensation surface for condensing vapour having passed through the diaphragm, and necessary passageways. According to the invention, the system comprises one or several units, each of which comprises a plurality of pipes located one within the other, viz. a first (1) inner pipe, a second (2) pipe located outside thereof and consisting of a diaphragm of the aforesaid kind, and a third (3) pipe located outside the second (2) pipe, which first (1) and third (3) pipes are of a gas-tight material, that said unit is surrounded by a fourth (4) gas-tight pipe, where a first (5) passageway is formed by the first (1) pipe and a second (6), a third (7) and a fourth (8) passageway are formed between said pipes (1, 2; 2, 3; 3, 4) in successive order in the direction from the inside outward. The said passageways (5, 6,7, 8) in radial order are intended to transport a warm medium (WW) for the supply of heat, to transport the liquid (SW) to be distilled, to condense gas having passed through the diaphragm (2) and to transport distillate (PW) which has been condensed, where the condensation of the gas takes place against a condensation surface, which consists of the passageway surface opposite to the diaphragm (2), and, respectively, to transport a cold medium (CW) for heat removal.

    • Apparatus 10 for controllably treating a liquid with a liquid treatment substance includes a body having a first portion 14 providing a container-receiving zone 16 and an opening leading into this zone, as well as a second portion 18 having a liquid inlet 22 and a liquid outlet 24 defining a liquid flow path 20 between them, with the zone being in communication with the liquid flow path. The apparatus also includes a container 35 for a liquid treatment substance. The container comprises a cylindrical sleeve 36, an end piece 38 closing off a first end of the cylindrical sleeve, apertures 42 in the sleeve in proximity to the first end, and seal means 45 between the first end of the sleeve and the aperture. The container is movable from an inoperative position in which the seal means seals fluidtightly against the first portion to prevent liquid passing from the flow path into the aperture, to an operative position in which the first end of the sleeve protrudes at least partially into the flow path. The apparatus further includes bias means 50 inside the body for biassing the first end of the sleeve out of the liquid flow path; actuating means 60 for varying the degree to which the first end of the sleeve protrudes into the flow path: and liquid regulating means 26, 28 inside the body for permitting controlled passage of a slip stream of liquid from the flow passage across the seal means into and out of the inside of the sleeve via the apertures in the sleeve, when the container is in its operative position.
