    • The present application relates to a decalcifying apparatus (20) for decalcifying an aqueous solution. The decalcifying apparatus (20) has an electrolytic cell section (26) configured to receive an aqueous solution. The electrolytic cell section has a first electrode arrangement (27) and a second electrode arrangement (28), and an ion generating body (41), such as a water-splitting membrane or an interposed electrolytic electrode. The ion generating body (41) is interposed in the electrolytic cell section in the second operating condition. The decalcifying apparatus (20) is configured to operate in a first operating condition for removing ions from aqueous solution, and a second operating condition for regenerating the ions into aqueous solution, the latter for example by reversing the potentials. The present invention also relates to a domestic appliance comprising the decalcifying apparatus and a method of decalcifying an aqueous solution employing the apparatus (20).

The liquid container further comprises a liquid flow-regulating element (139; 460) associated with the flowing section (148) and adapted to impose a predetermined flow rate ( ff, ff', fr) to a flow of liquid flowing through the flowing section (148) and wherein the sensing arrangement is configured to measure a time interval (ti, t' j , t" k ) during which the liquid flows through the flowing section (148) at said predetermined flow rate, the data processing element (442) being configured to calculate a volume (Vol i , Vol' j , Vol" k ) of liquid flowed through the flowing section (148) based on the measured time interval (ti, t' j , t" k ) and the predetermined flow rate (ff, ff', fr), said volume of flowed liquid being related to the volume of liquid filtered by said liquid filtering unit.
