    • A connector for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead. The apparatus includes a housing (20) which has a slot (24) to receive one of each of the one or more contacts (22). The contact-receiving slot extends substantially parallel to an axis which extends between a corresponding lead and spaced terminal. The housing has a first trough (56) formed in it proximate the lead and a second trough (58) formed therein proximate the spaced terminal. A first elastomeric element (76) is received in the first trough formed in the housing, and a second elastomeric element (50) is received in the second trough formed in the housing. The first and second elastomeric elements have a measure of compressibility and tensile extendibility. A contact (22) is received within each slot. Each contact provided has a protrusion (42) which extends outward from the surface of the housing to be engaged by the lead to which it corresponds. Each contact also has a nub (40) which extends outward from the surface to engage the corresponding spaced terminal. Each contact also has first and second hook portions, the first hook portion being disposed proximate the contact protrusion and encircling the first elastomeric element to hold the contact to the first elastomeric element, and the second hook portion being disposed proximate the contact nub and encircling the second elastomeric element to hold the contact to the second elastomeric element.

    • There is disclosed apparatus for electrically interconnecting a lead (30) of an integrated circuit device (32) to a terminal (38) spaced at a distance from the lead and comprising a housing (20) positioned between lead (30) and terminal (38) and having at least one slot (24) formed therein which extends parallel to an axis extending between lead (30) and terminal (38), and also having oppositely facing first surface (34) having a though (56) formed therein adjacent the lead (30) and second surface (36) having a trough (58) formed therein adjacent the terminal (38); in which a rigid first element (54) is received in trough (56) formed in first surface (34), and an elastomeric second element (50) is received in trough (58) formed in the second surface (36) and has a measure of compressibility and tensile extendability. A generally planar contact (22′) is received within slot (24) and has a protrusion (42) extending outwardly of first surface (34) for engagement by lead (32), a nub (40) normally extending outwardly of the housing (20) towards the second surface (36) to engage terminal (38), and a hook portion (44) adjacent nub (40) which encircles the elastomeric second element (50) to hold the contact (22′) to the second element (50), with the contact having an elongate channel (52) formed therein to receive the rigid first element (54) to permit relative movement of the first element (54) along the channel (52) as the protrusion (42) is engaged by circuit lead (30), whereby, as the rigid first element (54) moves relatively along channel (52), the protrusion (42) moves across the circuit lead (30) and the nub (40) moves across the terminal (38).

    • A connector for electrically interconnecting a lead of a device to a terminal spaced at a distance from the lead. The apparatus may include a contact engagable by the lead and further engagable by the spaced terminal. An elastomeric element is provided to bias the contact in an original position. As the contact is engaged by the lead, the elastomeric element may deform to permit movement of the contact. It is contemplated that the elastomeric element may be shaped, relative to the contact, to provide at least one spatial relief region between the elastomeric element and the contact. Further, it is contemplated that the elastomeric element may have one or more cavities formed therein to provide at least one spatial relief region. Finally, it is contemplated that the contact housing may be designed to provide at least one spatial relief region adjacent the elastomeric element. Accordingly, as a force to applied to the contact via a lead or the like, the elastomeric element may become deformed, causing a portion of the deformed elastomeric element to extend at least partially into the at least one spatial relief region. It has been found that by providing even a modest spatial relief region adjacent the elastomeric element, the lifetime of the elastomeric element may be substantially increased.
