    • A contact (18) for use with a chip carrier (12) and a method for inserting of same into a housing is taught. Briefly stated, the device includes a contact (18) which is shaped similar to a tuning fork or U with a carrier strip (60) parallel to the arms (30, 32) of the contact and a pivot arm (40) interconnecting the carrier strip to the arms of the contact and having an interconnection member (41) perpendicular to the carrier strip and adjacent the lower part (38) of the tuning fork type contact. The contacts in carrier strip form are inserted into the housing by a feeder/cutter (66) which after insertion of a contact (18) into the housing (10) severs the adjacent portion of the carrier strip from the contact with the housing then being indexed (58) for insertion of the next contact.
