摘要： The present invention provides a method and apparatus to route data packets across a torus or higher radix topology that has low latency, increased throughput and traffic distribution to avoid hot spots development. Disclosed is a method of routing packets in a distributed direct interconnect network from a source node to a destination node comprising the steps of: discovering all nodes and associated ports; updating the database to include the nodes and ports in the network topology; calculating the shortest path from every output port on each node to every other node in the topology; segmenting each packet into flits at the output port of the source node; as the flits are segmented, distributing said flits along the shortest path from each output port on the source node to the destination node using wormhole switching, whereby the packets are distributed along alternate maximum disjoint routes in the network topology; and re-assembling and re-ordering the packets at the destination node so that the packets accord with their original order/form.

摘要： One embodiment provides a system that facilitates cut-through forwarding of message fragments over a network. During operation, the system receives a packet that corresponds to a fragment of a message and contains a fragment header. The system stores in a data structure a mapping relationship between the fragment header and a hierarchically structured variable-length identifier (HSVLI), wherein the HSVLI comprises contiguous name components ordered from a most general level to a most specific level. The system makes a forwarding decision for the packet based on the fragment header prior to receiving all fragment packets associated with the message, thereby facilitating cut-through forwarding of the message fragments over a network.

摘要： A system for guaranteeing bandwidth for transmitting data in a network. A path generation engine determines a data paths across a network according to preselected criteria. A scheduling engine (2) determines schedule appointments for data packets to traverse each link in the network including compensation for transmission delays and switch latencies. Scheduling data is communicated to schedule-aware switches (3, 10) and endpoints so that appointment times are reserved for transmission of the scheduled data packets. Real-time transmission of data can be guaranteed in both directions along the transmission path.
